The New York Jets announced that Justin Fields will start at quarterback on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals after Tyrod Taylor was ruled out due to a knee injury.

Head coach Aaron Glenn declined to announce a starter when asked during the week whether Fields or Taylor would get the nod this weekend. The veteran backup replaced Fields during last week's loss to the Carolina Panthers after the first-year Jet completed just six passes for 46 yards in the opening half.

Taylor was able to get the offense moving in the second half, but struggled to put points on the board after tossing a pair of interceptions.

Taylor was listed as questionable on the team's final injury report Friday after being a limited participant in practice all week. The veteran signal-caller dealt with knee issues during training camp.

Owner Woody Johnson fuelled speculation about Fields' status as a starter earlier this week, criticizing the 26-year-old quarterback amid the team's 0-7 start.

Rookie Brady Cook will serve as Fields' backup for the contest.
