The Pete Carroll experiment in Las Vegas is over after one season.

The Raiders fired the 74-year-old head coach Monday after a disappointing 3-14 campaign, the team announced.

General manager John Spytek will lead all football operations, including the head coaching search, in collaboration with minority owner Tom Brady.

Carroll arrived to lead a veteran Raiders roster that included new quarterback Geno Smith. However, the season went into a tailspin, and Las Vegas now appears poised for a full rebuild after securing the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. It's the first time since 2007 that the Raiders will pick first in the draft.

Las Vegas struggled on both sides of the ball under Carroll. The offense averaged a league-worst 14.2 points per game while the defense was 25th in points allowed (25.4 points per game).

Carroll wasn't the only prized addition that didn't work out for the Raiders this season. Smith led the league in interceptions (17) and sacks taken (55) while playing 15 of a possible 17 games. Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly was fired during the season, and first-round running back Ashton Jeanty averaged 3.7 yards per carry behind an offensive line that struggled to win in the trenches.

The 2025 season marked Carroll's return to the sidelines after he was out of the NFL during 2024. Carroll and the Seahawks split in 2023 following a second straight 9-8 campaign, marking the end of his 14-year tenure in Seattle.

Las Vegas is searching for its sixth different head coach since 2021, including interim coaches.

The franchise's last playoff appearance came in 2021, while its last postseason victory occurred during the 2002 season.
