Report: Commanders promoting assistant coach Blough to OC
The Washington Commanders are promoting assistant quarterbacks coach David Blough to offensive coordinator, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Blough had been drawing interest from the Detroit Lions for their vacant OC position, Rapoport reports. Instead, he'll remain in the nation's capital and take over play-calling duties following the departure of Kilff Kingsbury.
Blough first joined the Commanders' staff as an assistant QB coach in 2024. He entered the coaching ranks after spending five years as a backup QB in the NFL. The 30-year-old took his last snaps in 2023, when he was a member of Detroit's practice squad.
The Commanders slumped to 5-12 this season as star signal-caller Jayden Daniels struggled to stay healthy. Washington scored 356 points in 2025, ranking 22nd in the league.
