Report: Jets place franchise tag on Hall

The New York Jets are placing the franchise tag on Breece Hall as they continue to work toward a long-term deal with the running back, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The non-exclusive tag, which the team reportedly intends to serve as a placeholder, is a one-year tender worth $14.293 million. Hall can negotiate with other teams and sign an offer sheet. However, the Jets have the right of first refusal and would receive two first-round picks as compensation if they don't match the offer.

General manager Darren Mougey said last week that the Jets want to keep Hall in the fold.

"Ideally, we find a way to get a deal done and keep Breece around. ... We have a week to find out, you know, if we can't get to an agreement, which way we'll go with that tag," Mougey said at the scouting combine.

The two sides were unable to strike a deal after two weeks of negotiations, a source told ESPN's Rich Cimini. The Jets have until July 15 to figure out a long-term agreement. Hall would play his 2026 campaign on the tag if an extension isn't finalized.

He becomes the first Jets player to be tagged since 2021, when the team used the tender on safety Marcus Maye.

Hall rushed for a career-high 1,065 yards in 2025. Touted as a dual threat out of the backfield, the Iowa State product has racked up 5,040 scrimmage yards over four seasons. He was one of the most productive pieces on a Jets' roster that finished last season with a 3-14 record.
