The Miami Dolphins are sending defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The pick going to Miami reportedly originally belonged to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Fitzpatrick, a five-time Pro Bowler, will sign a three-year, $40-million contract extension with the Jets, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Schefter.

The Dolphins, who drafted Fitzpatrick 11th overall in 2018, acquired the 29-year-old last season in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, marking his second stint with the club. The Alabama product spent six seasons with the Steelers, earning two All-Pro nods in that span.

On top of moving Fitzpatrick, the Dolphins announced earlier Monday that they'll release quarterback Tua Tagovailoa on Wednesday at the start of the new league year. Miami is entering a new era after hiring Jon-Eric Sullivan as general manager and Jeff Hafley as head coach this offseason.

The Dolphins hold the 11th overall pick in April's draft after compiling a 7-10 record in 2025.

The Jets, meanwhile, will select second overall. Adding Fitzpatrick should help a porous defensive unit that ranked 31st in points allowed per game (29.6) last season.
