Winnipeg Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey won't return to Sunday's Game 7 against the St. Louis Blues, the team announced prior to the start of the third period.

Morrissey was in some discomfort after taking a bump along the boards from Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist behind the Jets' net in the early stages of the opening frame. He received some attention on the bench and returned to the ice.

The rearguard then threw a hit on Mathieu Joseph right before the Blues forward scored. Morrissey headed down the tunnel afterwards.

His absence added to a nightmare start for the Jets, who were down 2-0 in the do-or-die contest before the midway mark of the first period. Jordan Kyrou opened the scoring 70 seconds in, and Joseph's tally came just over six minutes later.

Winnipeg was also without star forward Mark Scheifele for a second straight game due to an undisclosed injury.

Morrissey chipped in with three assists through the first six matchups of the series while leading the Jets in average ice time (23:30). He recorded 14 goals and 62 points in 80 outings during the regular season.
