Capitals' Carbery wins Jack Adams Award
Washington Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery won the Jack Adams Award, the NHL announced Saturday.
Carbery guided the Capitals to a 51-22-9 regular-season record as Washington finished first in the Eastern Conference.
The 43-year-old is the first to win Coach of the Year in the NHL, AHL, and ECHL. He earned the honor with the AHL's Hershey Bears in 2021 and the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays in 2014.
Carbery beat Winnipeg Jets' Scott Arniel and Montreal Canadiens' Martin St. Louis for the award.
While sitting down for what he believed was an end-of-season interview, Carbery's family surprised him with the award.
Washington enjoyed a 20-point increase in the standings from Carbery's first campaign. The Capitals also potted 68 more goals, vaulting from 28th in league scoring in 2023-24 to second this season.
Carbery's the fourth Capitals coach to win the Jack Adams after Bryan Murray (1984), Bruce Boudreau (2008), and Barry Trotz (2016).
He received 81 first-place votes on 103 ballots.
