Report: Canucks, Demko closing in on extension

The Vancouver Canucks and goaltender Thatcher Demko are closing in on a contract extension, reports Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli.

Demko isn't eligible to sign a new deal until Tuesday. He's entering the final season of a five-year contract signed in 2021 that has a $5-million cap hit. The two sides are working on the money and structure of the agreement, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.

The 29-year-old posted an .889 save percentage and a 2.90 goals-against average in 23 games this season. He was a Vezina Trophy finalist in 2024 after he had a .918 SV% and went 35-14-2 over 51 appearances.

Demko has struggled to stay healthy over the past year. A knee injury ended his 2024 playoff run prematurely and kept him out of the lineup until December. He sustained another lower-body injury in February that sidelined him for 15 games.

The American has totaled 242 games over 10 NHL seasons and has a career .910 SV%.

The Canucks signed goaltender Kevin Lankinen to a five-year contract extension with a $4.5-million cap hit in February.
