Report: Leafs not contemplating firing Berube, Treliving

Despite a disappointing season, Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube and general manager Brad Treliving are apparently safe - for now.

Berube and Treliving aren't in danger of losing their jobs, sources told Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Treliving also gave Berube a vote of confidence while addressing the media before the Leafs took on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.

"I want to make it clear. I support Craig fully," the GM said, according to Chris Johnston of The Athletic.

On Monday, the Leafs fired assistant coach Marc Savard, who oversaw a power play that ranked last in the NHL.

However, Toronto doesn't want to make further personnel changes without thorough preparation, Friedman adds.

The Leafs' No. 1 priority is reportedly finding a way to get captain Auston Matthews going, as the three-time Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy winner has 14 goals and 23 points in 30 games this season.

Toronto sits last place in the Eastern Conference after winning the Atlantic Division during the 2024-25 campaign. The club is in jeopardy of ending its streak of nine straight seasons with a playoff appearance - the longest active run in the NHL.
