Jason Day posted an 8-under 64 in Round 2 of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Friday, and he now trails leader Nick Taylor by two shots heading into the weekend.

Day signed a bogey-free scorecard showing six birdies and an eagle at Pebble Beach, where he gained over six strokes combined on and around the greens. The Aussie has recorded three straight top-five finishes at the Pro-Am event, and he appears destined to add No. 4.

Taylor, who was also the first-round leader, followed up his 63 from Thursday with a 66 during Round 2. The Canadian quickly erased his first and only bogey of the week on No. 12 with birdies on four of his final five holes.

Defending champion Phil Mickelson fired a 7-under 64 at Monterey Peninsula to climb into the third spot, three back of Taylor. After an eagle and seven birdies, the 49-year-old carded his second bogey of the day on No. 18 to drop out of a share of second with Day.

Here's how the top of the leaderboard looks following Round 2:

Notables Patrick Cantlay (8-under) shot 69 and Paul Casey (7-under) fired 65, putting themselves into contention with 36 holes left.
