Thorbjorn Olesen and Cristobal Del Solar each carded 9-under 61s to share the opening-round lead Thursday at the RBC Canadian Open.

The 61s mark the lowest opening-round scores in the tournament's history, according to PGA TOUR Communications.

Olesen birdied four of his last five holes to surge up the crowded leaderboard at TPC Toronto. Del Solar had a prime opportunity to achieve the 15th sub-60 round in PGA TOUR history, but a bogey on the par-4 17th derailed his chances.

Del Solar is no stranger to breaking 60, as the Chilean recorded a 57 on the Korn Ferry Tour last season to set the single-round scoring record at a TOUR-sanctioned event.

Neither Olesen nor Del Solar has a win on their TOUR resumes. Here's a look at wear things stand after Round 1.

Pendrith, a native of nearby Richmond Hill, is the low Canadian heading into Friday. Former champion Nick Taylor is in the hunt at 4-under, while fellow Canucks Hunter Thomson and Adam Hadwin are each 3-under.

Tournament headliner and two-time champion Rory McIlroy is 10 strokes off the lead after a 1-over 71 on Thursday. This year's Masters winner said he was pleased with how he played after the round despite being lower in the standings.
