Marlins trade Weathers to Yankees for 4 prospects
The New York Yankees shored up their rotation Tuesday with a trade.
The Miami Marlins shipped left-hander Ryan Weathers to the Yankees for outfield prospects Brendan Jones and Dillon Lewis and infield prospects Dylan Jasso and Juan Matheus, the clubs announced.
New York will head into the 2026 campaign with a projected rotation that features Weathers, Max Fried, Cam Schlittler, Luis Gil, and Will Warren or Ryan Yarbrough. Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón, and Clarke Schmidt will be sidelined to start the season as the trio recovers from elbow surgeries.
Weathers' dad, Ryan, suited up with the Yankees for parts of 1996 and 1997.
David & Ryan Weathers will be the fifth set of father-sons to both play for the Yankees, joining:

Weathers was limited to eight starts last year due to multiple injuries, including a forearm strain and a lat strain.
The 26-year-old authored a 3.99 ERA with 1.28 WHIP and 8.7 K/9 over 38 1/3 innings in 2025. He's never logged more than 94 2/3 innings in a season since debuting with the San Diego Padres in 2021.
Weathers will make $1.35 million in 2026, and is arbitration-eligible through 2028.
The trade marks the second big prospect haul the Marlins received for one of their starting pitchers since last Wednesday after the club dealt Edward Cabrera to the Chicago Cubs.
The 23-year-old Jones (Yankees' No. 15 prospect) hit 11 homers with 69 RBIs, 51 stolen bases, and a .754 OPS across 124 games between Single-A and Double-A last year.
Lewis went deep 22 times with 79 RBIs and a .766 OPS over 122 Single-A contests in 2025. The 22-year-old was New York's No. 16 prospect.
Jasso, 23, slashed .257/.326/.400 with 13 long balls and 76 RBIs in 127 Double-A games last season. He was the No. 23-ranked prospect in the Yankees system.
Lastly, the 21-year-old Matheus (unranked) hit two homers with 35 steals and a .729 OPS across 95 Single-A contests last year.
