Cardinals GM: 'We are going to be active' in free agency
The Arizona Cardinals are poised to have a busy offseason, according to general manager Monti Ossenfort.
"We are going to be active (in free agency)," Ossenfort said on Arizona Sports 98.7's "Newsmakers Week" on Friday, according to team reporter Zach Gershman. "We're going to look for every avenue to improve the team, but we have to be smart about not only this year's team but as we build for the future and our own players that we want to extend."
The Cardinals are projected to have over $76 million in cap space this offseason, per Over The Cap. That money could further the ascension of an Arizona franchise that won eight games in 2024, its most since 2021.
"We're so close," owner Michael Bidwill said. "This is such a competitive division. With a few more pieces this offseason, I feel like we've got the right combination of coaching, players, roster to take the next step."
Ossenfort also noted that an extension for Pro Bowl tight end Trey McBride will be tackled "as it comes up."
The Cardinals have invested in surrounding quarterback Kyler Murray with talent in recent years. In addition to taking McBride in the second round of the 2022 draft, they've also used first-round picks on wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. (2024) and offensive tackle Paris Johnson (2023).
The 2025 season will be the third in which Ossenfort and head coach Jonathan Gannon are in charge in Arizona.
