Young runs away with Wyndham Championship for 1st TOUR victory
Cameron Young cruised to a six-shot victory at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday, scoring a final-round 68 to get to 22-under for the tournament.
Young's triumph is the first of his PGA TOUR career after seven runner-up finishes and 22 top-10s.
Young jumped into the lead during the second round and never relinquished his position at the top. He birdied five of his opening six holes Sunday to help seal the deal.
Here's how the top of the leaderboard ended up.
Position | Player | Score |
---|---|---|
1 | Cameron Young | -22 |
2 | Mac Meissner | -16 |
T-3 | Mark Hubbard | -15 |
T-3 | Alex Noren | -15 |
T-5 | Jackson Koivun (A) | -14 |
T-5 | Chris Kirk | -14 |
The Wyndham Championship was the TOUR's regular-season finale. The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings all qualify for next week's FedEx St. Jude Championship, the first of three playoff legs.
Young qualified comfortably, and his win Sunday could help his candidacy for a captain's pick on the U.S. Ryder Cup squad in September. The event is being held at Bethpage Black in New York, Young's home state.
The top six players in the USA's rankings following the BMW Championship - the second leg of the playoffs - automatically make the team. Captain Keegan Bradley will choose the other six players.
