Tiger: 'I'm a ways away' from setting playing schedule
Tiger Woods hasn't made a decision about playing on the PGA TOUR Champions as his 50th birthday approaches at the end of December.
"Yeah, I'm probably gonna play 25 events on both tours, and I think that should cover most of the year, right?" Woods quipped, tongue in cheek, Tuesday.
He continued, "Let me get back to playing again. Let me do that and then I'll kinda figure out what the schedule is going to be. I'm a ways away from that part of it and that type of decision, that type of commitment level. Unfortunately, I've been through this rehab process before. It's a step-by-step. Then, once I get a feel for practicing, exploding, playing, the recovery process, then I can assess where I'm gonna play and how much I'll play."
Woods underwent his seventh back procedure in October and had surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon in March. He hasn't played a PGA TOUR event since the 2024 Open Championship, though he did play in the inaugural indoor TGL season in 2025. Woods withdrew from the Genesis Invitational in February following the death of his mother.
As part of his rehab process, Woods noted that he was cleared to chip and putt Friday, according to Golf Monthly. He confirmed that he won't play at the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie, later in December. The duo has competed at the event annually since 2020.
Woods also confirmed he won't be available for the first part of the 2026 TGL season, according to Golf Monthly. His Jupiter Links team plays Jan. 13, Jan. 20, Feb. 2, March 1, and March 3.
On the heels of the United States' loss on home soil at the Ryder Cup, Woods said he hasn't been asked about being the American captain in 2027, according to Golf Monthly.
