AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy sued his former girlfriend who accused him of attacking her, alleging the woman assaulted him and stole or destroyed more than $150,000 in cash and property.Worthy filed the lawsuit Monday against Tia Jones in Williamson County, Texas, where the two lived and where Worthy played college football at the University of Texas.Worthy was <a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-xavier-worthy-arrested-4d3b3bb4c3608a5be74f2dda420f0044">arrested earlier this month</a> after Jones accused him of assaulting her, but the district attorney declined to file charges in that case after speaking to multiple witnesses.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>In his lawsuit, Worthy alleges that Jones fabricated the allegations of abuse and that she became enraged after he asked her to move out of the home they were living in. He says in the lawsuit that Jones assaulted him, ripping out his hair, and destroyed his game room.He also alleges that while he was in jail, Jones stole a handgun, $30,000 in cash, jewelry, a key to his Rolls Royce and other belongings.An attorney for Jones, Angelica Cogliano, said Monday she had not seen the lawsuit and declined to comment.Worthy is seeking between $250,000 and $1 million“Plaintiff not only suffered bodily injuries and property damage as a result of this incident, but his credibility, veracity, and reputation suffered, and this narrative, although false, will always track his career and future in the NFL,” the suit states.Worthy was chosen by the Chiefs with the 28th overall pick in last year’s draft after setting the record for the fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. MUTTENZ, Switzerland (AP) — Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini won again in court Tuesday and now lead 2-0 in trial verdicts against Swiss federal prosecutors.Once soccer’s most powerful men, former FIFA president Blatter and former UEFA president Platini were <a href="https://apnews.com/article/soccer-sports-switzerland-fifa-sepp-blatter-0543ab089e6c83eb876bae41c62374df">acquitted for a second time</a> in a case now in its 10th year on charges of fraud, forgery, mismanagement and misappropriation of more than $2 million of FIFA money in 2011.Blatter, now aged 89, gave little reaction listening to the verdict of three cantonal (state) judges acting as a federal criminal appeals court. Sitting in the row in front of Platini, Blatter alternately tapped his fingers on his desk or held his left hand over his mouth.<div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div>Only when the 55-minute verdict statement was over did Blatter smile before reaching across to shake his lawyer’s hand. Blatter then shared a long hug with his daughter, Corinne.“You have seen my daughter was coming with tears because she believed in (her) father and I believed in myself,” said Blatter, who spoke of a sword of Damocles being removed from over his head. “To wait such a long time affects the person and my family was very much affected.”Platini sat with his arms folded or rubbing his hands as he listened to a translator sitting beside him relating the court’s verdict in German into his native French.“This persecution by FIFA and some Swiss federal prosecutors for 10 years is now finished, is now totally finished,” Platini said leaving the court, insisting his honor was restored. “So I’m very happy.”The attorney general’s office in Switzerland had challenged a first acquittal in July 2022 and asked for sentences of 20 months, suspended for two years. The indictment alleged the payment “damaged FIFA’s assets and unlawfully enriched Platini.”“Michel Platini must finally be left in peace in criminal matters,” his lawyer Dominic Nellen said in a statement. ”After two acquittals, even the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland must realize that these criminal proceedings have definitively failed.”A further appeal to the Swiss supreme court can be filed by the prosecutors’ office, which said in a statement it “will decide about how to further proceed.”<h3>Decade-long case</h3>Blatter and Platini have consistently denied wrongdoing in a decade-long case that ultimately came to nothing in court yet totally altered world soccer body FIFA.The legal case swung on their claims of a verbal agreement to one day settle the money in question.Blatter approved FIFA paying 2 million Swiss francs (now $2.21 million) to France soccer great Platini in February 2011 for supplementary and non-contracted salary working as a presidential advisor from 1998-2002.The latest win for Blatter and the 69-year-old Platini came exactly 9½ years since the Swiss federal investigation was revealed and kicked off events that ended the careers of the two men.That September 2015 day in Zurich, police came to interrogate them at FIFA after an executive committee meeting when Platini was a strong favorite to succeed his one-time mentor in an upcoming election.With Platini soon suspended and banned by FIFA, European soccer body UEFA ran his long-time secretary general Gianni Infantino as its election candidate. Infantino was a surprise winner in February 2016 and is set to lead FIFA until at least 2031.<h3>Corruption crises</h3>Though federal court trials have twice cleared their names, Blatter’s reputation likely always will be tied to leading FIFA during corruption crises that took down a swath of senior soccer officials worldwide.Platini, one of soccer’s greatest players and later Blatter’s protégé in soccer politics, never did get the FIFA presidency he often called his destiny.Neither Blatter nor Platini has worked in soccer since they were suspended by the FIFA ethics committee in October 2015. They were later banned and failed to overturn the bans in separate appeals to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in 2016.”The criminal proceedings have had not only legal but also massive personal and professional consequences for Michel Platini, although no incriminating evidence was ever presented,” Nellen said, suggesting further legal action “against those responsible for the criminal proceedings.”<a href="https://apnews.com/platini-plans-comeback-legal-fight-after-4-year-fifa-ban-b138eb12beb9450097c8b86bb34d2703">Platini’s ban expired in 2019</a> and Blatter was given a subsequent ban by FIFA in 2021 months before his first was due to end.Blatter is exiled from soccer until late in 2028 — when he will be 92 — because of an ethics prosecution of alleged self-dealing in eight-figure management bonuses paid for successfully organizing the men’s World Cup in 2010 and 2014.<h3>‘Gentleman’s agreement’</h3>The verdict was given Tuesday in a low-key provincial courthouse where a four-day trial was held three weeks ago.Blatter and Platini have claimed at five different judicial bodies — twice at FIFA, then the Court of Arbitration for Sport and now two Swiss federal criminal courts — that they had a verbal “gentleman’s agreement” to one day settle the unpaid and non-contracted salary.Platini was a storied former captain and coach of the France national term when he worked to help Blatter get elected to lead FIFA in Paris on the eve of the 1998 World Cup he organized.The two men said Platini agreed to be a presidential adviser on an annual salary of 300,000 Swiss francs (now $340,000) through 2002. They claim there was a verbal deal to later get the balance of 1 million Swiss francs for each year that FIFA could not pay at the time.Platini started asking for the money early in 2010, citing seven-figure payments made to senior Blatter aides who left FIFA which showed the soccer body could afford to pay him. The payment was finally made in February 2011.Details of the payment only emerged in the crisis that <a href="https://apnews.com/general-news-9d24df93687c4e3bb0e67befb4d892f2">hit FIFA in May 2015</a> when U.S. federal investigators unsealed a sweeping investigation of international soccer officials. Izzo has 58 wins in the NCAA Tournament, tied for fourth in a coaching career. The 70-year-old Hall of Famer has taken the Spartans to March Madness 27 times.
Four of those victories have come against the Pitino family. Izzo has won both of his matchups against New Mexico coach Richard Pitino and is 2-1 against his father, Rick. The Spartans trailed 31-29 at halftime, but opened the second half with six straight points. A pair of free throws by Carr 90 seconds into the second half gave them their first lead.
A layup by Dent tied the game at 51-all with 7:39 remaining. Michigan State then took control with seven straight points. The run started with a 3-pointer by Akins as the shot clock was winding down, with New Mexico's Tru Washington guarding him.
New Mexico led the entire first half and was up 29-20 after Anzil's second 3-pointer of the first half. 
Michigan State responded with an 8-0 run, including a dunk by Akins.

The team announced Sunday that Dr. Steven Shin in Los Angeles would perform the procedure and a timetable for Encarnación’s return would be determined after surgery. 
Encarnación broke the bone in his left hand while attempting a diving catch Friday. He batted .302 with two home runs and 14 RBIs in spring training after hitting .248 with five homers and 19 RBIs in 113 at-bats in 2024.

The Yankees said the organization was “filled with grief.”
“Words feel insignificant and insufficient in trying to describe such an unimaginable loss,” the team said in its statement. "It wasn’t just Brett who literally grew up in this organization for more than 17 years — so did his wife, Jessica, and their two boys, Hunter and Miller.”
Brett Gardner, 41, was drafted by the Yankees in 2005 and spent his entire big league career with the organization. The speedy outfielder batted .256 with 139 homers, 578 RBIs, 274 steals and 73 triples in 14 seasons from 2008-2021.

(AP) — Kyle Larson passed Alex Bowman with six laps remaining in NASCAR’s Cup Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Sunday, giving the Hendrick Motorsports driver the 30th win of his career at one of his best tracks.Larson sped by as Bowman scraped the wall on Turn 4 with the lead. Larson extended his edge to more than a second over his Hendrick Motorsports teammate, then held on to beat Bowman by 1.205 seconds for his second career Cup Series win at Homstead, and his second victory of the weekend.Larson fell one race short of <a href="https://apnews.com/article/nascar-homestead-miami-larson-82c27826da5b5bc3237f7a042a59ea0b">sweeping the triple-header weekend</a>. He won the Craftsman Truck race on Friday and finished fourth in the Xfinity Series on Saturday. Larson, driving the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, led just 19 of 267 laps and had to overcome poor starting position, pit road mishaps and bad restarts to pull off the win — his first victory of the season and first in the Cup Series at Homestead since 2022.Bowman, who was Saturday’s pole winner, finished second in the No. 48 Chevrolet. Bubba Wallace was third for 23XI Racing after leading 43 laps — the most laps he’s led in a race since September 2023. Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Chase Briscoe and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five.Ryan Blaney was running third when his engine blew up on Lap 207, causing a thick cloud of smoke to cover the track and a lengthy cleanup.It had been a strong race for Blaney before then. He led 124 laps and won Stage 1 after starting sixth. It was the second time in three races that Blaney did not finish a race because of an engine failure with his No. 12 Team Penske Ford.“It just stinks,” Blaney said. “Led a lot of laps. Lost a little bit of track position there with some stuff on pit road but got back to third. And it was a great race between me, Bubba and Larson. ... It was going to be a heck of a battle the last 60 laps or so, but just didn’t really work out for us. We’ll keep our head up.“It’s one of those things where it’s not really going our way right now, but the good news is we’re bringing fast cars.”<h3>Pit road mishaps</h3>While exiting pit road on Lap 84, Josh Berry’s No. 21 Ford hit the side of Larson’s car, then hit Joey Logano’s No. 22 Ford. Both Logano and Berry spun then went the wrong direction into their pit stalls to check the damage. Larson’s car was slightly damaged from the contact.Another incident happened on Lap 172. Chase Elliott received a penalty for not being lined up single-file coming into pit road, even though Elliott could be heard on his in-car feed saying the he had veered left to avoid hitting someone, but gave the spot back. Elliott, driving a No. 9 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, finished 18th.<h3>Up next</h3>The Cup series races next at Martinsville Speedway, where Blaney won in November to punch his ticket into last season’s playoff final four.
