Jackson also tops the Grizzlies in 3-pointers (100) and free throws (233).</p><p>Jackson, who's played 200 more minutes than the next closest Memphis player, isn't just accumulating counting stats. His on-off numbers on defense are as gaudy. The Grizzlies allow 8.3 fewer points per 100 possessions when Jackson is on the court. Boston has the third-easiest <a href="https://www.tankathon.com/remaining_schedule_strength">strength of schedule</a> remaining post-All-Star break, playing the Jazz, Hornets, Nets, and Sixers eight times before the end of the season. Cleveland Cavaliers (43-10)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>2</p><p>De'Andre Hunter went 3-of-4 from deep in his first Cavs game while the rest of the team was 14-of-39 (35.8%). Once he acclimates defensively, Cleveland's shortened playoff rotation could be a nightmare for opponents.</p><h3><a id="BOS" name="BOS">3. Boston Celtics (38-16)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>4</p><p>The Celtics didn't make any trades at the deadline, instead signing veteran free-agent forward Torrey Craig for more depth. Boston seems to believe they have enough to repeat as champions.</p><h3><a id="DEN" name="DEN">4. Denver Nuggets (35-19)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>7</p><p>The Nuggets will have to rely on the buyout market to improve their roster but, as a first-apron team, they can't add a player who was making more than the mid-level exception before they were bought out.</p><h3><a id="MEM" name="MEM">5. The Grizzlies whittled their depth for supposed offseason flexibility.</p><h3><a id="LAL" name="LAL">6. Los Angeles Lakers (32-19)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>9</p><p>Defense wins championships - at least that's what Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison wants us to believe. If that's true, the Lakers need to figure things out quickly, as four of their key players are turnstiles on that end.</p><h3><a id="NYK" name="NYK">7. New York Knicks (35-18)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>5</p><p>New York's ambitions to enter the league's upper tier took a hit Saturday with another lopsided loss to the Celtics, who have now shot a combined 48-of-100 from deep in two victories over the Knicks this season. Boston also put up 130-plus points in each win.</p><h3><a id="HOU" name="HOU">8. Houston Rockets (33-20)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>3</p><p>The Rockets tumbled from second in the West courtesy of a six-game losing skid. That stretch was epitomized by some comical decision-making late in an appalling loss to the Brooklyn Nets. This team needs the All-Star break to reset.</p><h3><a id="MIN" name="MIN">9. Minnesota Timberwolves (30-24)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>12</p><p>The absence of Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo has forced Anthony Edwards to carry the offensive load in Minnesota. The 23-year-old has scored a Timberwolves-record 40 or more in his last three starts.</p><h3><a id="MIL" name="MIL">10. Los Angeles Clippers (29-23)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>10</p><p>Will the second-unit additions of Bogdan Bogdanovic and Ben Simmons, brought in to replace Kevin Porter Jr. and Terance Mann, help improve the Clippers' sometimes lousy offense? Probably not, but at least Kawhi Leonard is healthy.</p><h3><a id="IND" name="IND">12. Indiana Pacers (29-23)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>11</p><p>In just six February games, Indiana has already surpassed its loss count for January, when it had the league's best winning percentage (83.3%). May as well call them the Can't Keep Up The Pacers.</p><h3><a id="GSW" name="GSW">13. Golden State Warriors (27-26)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>19</p><p>Jimmy Butler is fitting in well, averaging 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and five assists in two double-digit wins over the Bulls and Bucks. His play can guide the Warriors out of the play-in tournament.</p><h3><a id="PHX" name="PHX">14. Phoenix Suns (26-27)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>13</p><p>Credit to Bradley Beal's resolve. While enforcing his no-trade clause, he averaged 18.6 points and shot 48.3% from deep in seven pre-deadline games. Since then, though, he's missed three straight with a sprained toe.</p><h3><a id="SAC" name="SAC">15. Detroit Pistons (28-26)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>15</p><p>Only nine teams have won 14 or more games in 2025, and the Pistons are among them. Forget the play-in: Detroit is suddenly within touching distance of home-court advantage in the first round.</p><h3><a id="MIA" name="MIA">17. Miami Heat (25-26)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>18</p><p>The Butler trade saga is finally over, as the Heat acquired Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and Davion Mitchell from the Warriors for the disgruntled veteran. Miami can now focus on its current roster and play out the season.</p><h3><a id="ORL" name="ORL">18. Orlando Magic (26-29)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>17</p><p>An injury-plagued campaign paired with a do-nothing deadline day speaks to a team on the rise but still stuck in the middle. Orlando will simultaneously shift focus to the future while harboring visions of slaying giants in this season's playoffs. </p><h3><a id="ATL" name="ATL">19. Atlanta Hawks (26-28)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>21</p><p>Atlanta folded its hand at the deadline, instead opting to move forward with a core of Zaccharie Risacher and Dyson Daniels around Trae Young. Despite the future-oriented outlook, they've won three straight.</p><h3><a id="SAS" name="SAS">20. Portland Trail Blazers (23-31)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>25</p><p>The Blazers have arguably been the league's hottest team for a month, winning 11 of their last 13 contests. Portland has seven players averaging 10 or more points since the winning streak began.</p><h3><a id="PHI" name="PHI">22. Philadelphia 76ers (20-33)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>22</p><p>The Sixers shouldn't risk injuring Joel Embiid further just to make the play-in. If they commit to the tank, they won't have to send OKC their first-rounder if it's inside the top six - Philadelphia currently has the seventh-worst record.</p><h3><a id="DAL" name="DAL">23. Dallas Mavericks (28-26)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>14</p><p>Anthony Davis put up a first-half double-double in his Mavs debut before promptly straining his adductor. Dallas' jewel in the Luka trade is expected to miss multiple weeks, and there's no official timeline for his return.</p><h3><a id="CHI" name="CHI">24. Chicago Bulls (22-32)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>23</p><p>Arturas Karnisovas seems content to languish in the middle and just contend for a play-in tournament spot. The Bulls should have ripped the Band-Aid off completely and sold everything at the deadline.</p><h3><a id="TOR" name="TOR">25. Brooklyn Nets (19-34)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>27</p><p>Buying out Simmons was the Nets' best possible long-term move. The 28-year-old didn't fit the team's future timeline, so dealing him allowed Brooklyn to pivot to younger players who could develop into mainstays.</p><h3><a id="UTA" name="UTA">27. Utah Jazz (12-40)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>29</p><p>How many inefficient, score-first guards can one team accumulate? The Jazz are trying their best to find the answer to this mathematical mystery. At least 21-year-old Brice Sensabaugh has made strides as a creator.</p><h3><a id="NOP" name="NOP">28. New Orleans Pelicans (12-41)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>28</p><p>The Brandon Ingram era ended in New Orleans with two first-round playoff exits, including a sweep last season at the hands of the Thunder. Ideally, Zion Williamson and Co. can lead the Pelicans to more success.</p><h3><a id="CHA" name="CHA">29. Charlotte Hornets (13-38)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>26</p><p>One of the NBA's biggest storylines is finding out which team will end up with Mark Williams. Charlotte is reportedly disputing the center's failed physical which nixed a trade with the Lakers.</p><h3><a id="WAS" name="WAS">30. Washington Wizards (9-44)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>30</p><p>It's always been about the big picture. Turning actual players into draft capital and giving the young core - which is leading the league in rookie minutes - more responsibility is refreshingly avant-garde for this franchise.</p>

Winnipeg Jets (39-14-3)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 2</em></p><p><strong>Center depth</strong>. The Jets are flying high and have a plethora of strengths, but they could use some reinforcement down the middle. Mark Scheifele and Vladislav Namestnikov are rock solid, but Adam Lowry remains out week-to-week with an injury. Even when he's back, Winnipeg would still be wise to add at the center position.</p><h3><a id="WSH" name="WSH">2. Washington Capitals (36-11-8)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 1</em></p><p><strong>A quality 3rd-liner. </strong>The Capitals added Lars Eller early in the season but could still use a difference-maker in their bottom six. Solid wingers are always available at the deadline for reasonable prices, so this should be an easy add for general manager Chris Patrick to make.</p><h3><a id="DAL" name="DAL">3. Dallas Stars (35-18-2)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 5</em></p><p><strong>A big fish. </strong>The Stars have two big absentees in their lineup in Miro Heiskanen and Tyler Seguin. If both players are out until the playoffs, Dallas would have more room to make a huge splash beyond Mikael Granlund and Cody Ceci. Why not take a page out of the Golden Knights' handbook? It helped them win the Cup.</p><h3><a id="EDM" name="EDM">4. Edmonton Oilers (34-17-4)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 3</em></p><p><strong>A lefty on defense</strong>. The Oilers could always use more secondary scoring to aid Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, but their most pressing need is on the back end. Edmonton general manager Stan Bowman <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6121964/2025/02/07/oilers-trade-deadline-stan-bowman/">acknowledged</a> the team could use a southpaw on the blue line as depth under Mattias Ekholm, Darnell Nurse, and Brett Kulak on that side.</p><h3><a id="FLA" name="FLA">5. Florida Panthers (34-20-3)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 8</em></p><p><strong>Help on the back end. </strong>The Panthers need a top-four defender to push the rest of their depth pieces into place. Dmitry Kulikov is playing almost 20 minutes a night. That's too much. One notable addition on defense would turn that unit into a strength again.</p><h3><a id="CAR" name="CAR">6. But patience is key here for the Hurricanes. Rantanen was blindsided by the trade and is now dealing with an injury. He'll find his groove in Carolina soon enough.</p><h3><a id="VGK" name="VGK">7. Vegas Golden Knights (33-17-6)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 6</em></p><p><strong>A goalie</strong>. The Golden Knights have played well this season despite mediocre netminding from Adin Hill and Ilya Samsonov. While Vegas might publicly express confidence in starting Hill down the stretch and in the playoffs, the club could use an insurance policy.</p><h3><a id="LAK" name="LAK">8. Los Angeles sits dead last in the league in goals per game (2.18) since the calendar flipped to 2025, and its power play is operating at a measly 9.1% success rate over that span.</p><h3><a id="MIN" name="MIN">9. Minnesota Wild (33-19-4)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 10</em></p><p><strong>An impactful bargain forward. </strong>The Wild have injury troubles, and cap constraints will make it difficult to address them. That means whoever Minnesota brings in must be capable of chipping in offensively at budget value.</p><h3><a id="TOR" name="TOR">10. Toronto Maple Leafs (33-20-2)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 9</em></p><p><strong>Ryan O'Reilly. </strong>The Leafs need a third-line center who can score and contribute in the playoffs. Why not get one they've had before? O'Reilly doesn't have any trade protection, though Nashville would apparently only move him to a place he'd agree to. The veteran didn't re-sign with Toronto in 2023, but maybe a reunion with head coach Craig Berube would be attractive.</p><h3><a id="TBL" name="TBL">11. Tampa Bay Lightning (31-20-4)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 16</em></p><p><strong>A top-six winger. </strong>The Lightning have tried multiple players on the second line but haven't found an ideal fit with Anthony Cirelli and Brandon Hagel. One more quality option rounds Tampa Bay into a very formidable unit.</p><h3><a id="COL" name="COL">12. New Jersey captain Nico Hischier (who plays the position) is week-to-week due to injury, but New Jersey needs an upgrade, regardless.</p><h3><a id="DET" name="DET">14. Detroit Red Wings (28-22-5)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 22</em></p><p><strong>An elite penalty killer</strong>. The Red Wings are in a wild-card spot at the break and should buy before the deadline. Detroit has been the worst team in the NHL at preventing goals with the opponent on the man advantage, killing a mere 69.7% of penalties this season.</p><h3><a id="OTT" name="OTT">15. Ottawa Senators (29-23-4)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 14</em></p><p><strong>A top-nine forward</strong>. The suddenly competitive Senators should look to patch up holes both up front and on the back end, but Ottawa's priority should be the former. Injured forward Josh Norris will be back shortly after the 4 Nations Face-Off concludes, but Nick Cousins is likely out until late March following knee surgery.</p><h3><a id="VAN" name="VAN">16. Vancouver Canucks (26-18-11)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 20</em></p><p><strong>A reinvigorated Elias Pettersson</strong>. The Canucks picked their side in the Pettersson-J.T. Miller drama. They got another defenseman in Marcus Pettersson. Thatcher Demko's latest injury isn't believed to be serious. The biggest factor in determining Vancouver's playoff fate is EP40. With all distractions off the table, the star forward needs to step up. </p><h3><a id="CGY" name="CGY">17. However, New York's need is even greater considering Ryan Lindgren is a pending unrestricted free agent who might be sent packing.</p><h3><a id="CBJ" name="CBJ">19. Columbus Blue Jackets (26-22-8)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 17</em></p><p><strong>Immediate help with long-term upside. </strong>The Blue Jackets deserve to be rewarded for their performance, but GM Don Waddell must be careful not to get carried away. Identifying targets in their prime and with team control is a must for a Columbus club that has exceeded expectations.</p><h3><a id="NYI" name="NYI">20. New York Islanders (25-23-7)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 21</em></p><p><strong>Future assets in return for Brock Nelson</strong>. The Islanders boast the biggest trade chip heading into the deadline. New York GM Lou Lamoriello must recognize Nelson's value on the market regardless of the Isles' playoff chances and acquire at least a first-round pick and promising prospect for the veteran scorer, who's spent his entire career with the franchise.</p><h3><a id="BOS" name="BOS">21. Boston Bruins (27-24-6)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 15</em></p><p><strong>A good package for Trent Frederic. </strong>The Bruins aren't necessarily in teardown mode, but they should use this deadline to recoup some assets. Boston has picked in the first round just twice in the last four drafts. There's interest in Frederic, a pending UFA, so the Bruins should get what they can.</p><h3><a id="MTL" name="MTL">22. Montreal Canadiens (25-26-5)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 18</em></p><p><strong>Don't lose sight of the plan</strong>. The Canadiens have done an admirable job of rebuilding, and they even crept into the playoff race recently before coming back down to Earth. Montreal can't be tempted to buy this spring. David Savard, Jake Evans, Joel Armia, and Christian Dvorak should all be dealt to continue the club's retooling phase.</p><h3><a id="ANA" name="ANA">23. Buffalo Sabres (22-27-5)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 30</em></p><p><strong>Legit talent back in a Dylan Cozens trade. </strong>Several teams have <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3190713" href="https://thescore.com/news/3190713">reportedly</a> shown <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3210583" href="https://thescore.com/news/3210583">interest</a> in the 2019 seventh overall pick, who buried 31 goals in 2022-23. If the Sabres trade Cozens, they need to make a "hockey trade" rather than just settling for assets. A young center with upside must head to Buffalo if the Eastern Conference cellar-dwellers make the deal.</p><h3><a id="STL" name="STL">26. Schenn's value will only deteriorate in the coming seasons. Nashville Predators (19-28-7)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 23</em></p><p><strong>Picks and prospects. </strong>Few thought the Predators would be in selling mode after they made several significant offseason splashes, but here we are. Nashville has some veteran forwards to dangle in trade talks, including Ryan O'Reilly and pending UFA Gustav Nyquist. Nashville needs to get what it can for them.</p><h3><a id="PHI" name="PHI">29. Philadelphia Flyers (24-26-7)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 26</em></p><p><strong>A young, skilled, top-six center. </strong>This one's a gimme, as Flyers GM Daniel Briere said that's what he's looking for. He gained some cap flexibility by moving out Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee, so let's see what he does with it. Maybe there's room to add a goalie, too, because Philly's netminders are <em>struggling</em>.</p><h3><a id="SEA" name="SEA">30. San Jose can hope other teams come calling about the leftovers, like pending UFAs Luke Kunin, Nico Sturm, Jan Rutta, or goalies Vitek Vanecek and Alexandar Georgiev - both of whom are also on expiring contracts.</p>

Those moves were consistent with a team triggering an aggressive rebuild, especially after GM Sean Marks claimed the club's present ambitions "may not always be in line with winning." It only made sense to off-load Cam Johnson amid a career season with two years left on a thrifty four-year, $94-million deal. The Cavaliers were reportedly interested, yet Johnson was still in Brooklyn once the clock struck 3 p.m. on Thursday. Make it make sense. <em>- Michael J. Chandler</em></p><p><strong>Jonathan Kuminga: </strong>We knew the Warriors were hell-bent on bringing in another star to pair with Stephen Curry. What we didn't expect was how determined they'd be to not trade Kuminga to get that done. Adding Jimmy Butler while retaining Kuminga helps keep the rotation stacked for a (possible) playoff run this season, but the financial crunch will be felt this summer when the latter becomes a restricted free agent, especially in light of Butler's two-year mammoth extension worth $121 million. The Warriors are slated to be $19.3 million under the 2025-26 luxury tax, courtesy <a href="https://x.com/BobbyMarks42/status/1887340894354850049">ESPN's Bobby Marks</a>, and Kuminga was last reported to be seeking an extension worth $35 million annually. Capela's numbers have gradually declined over the past two campaigns and there was an opportunity to acquire an asset or two in exchange for his expiring contract. Nurkic only appeared in two games in 2025 and recently said he hadn't spoken to Phoenix Suns head coach Mike Budenholzer in months. Nurkic will have an opportunity to rehab his value playing alongside LaMelo Ball and a Hornets roster with a lot of offensive talent. Charlotte has a void in the middle after Mark Williams was shipped to the Lakers and Nick Richards was moved to Nurkic's old team, Phoenix, ahead of the deadline. <em>- Thomas Tittley</em></p><p><strong>Mark Williams:</strong><em> </em>Perhaps it's a result of toiling with the NBA's most irrelevant franchise, but Williams flew under the radar in three seasons with the Hornets. Obscure no more, he now gets to play alongside LeBron James and Luka Doncic in L.A. while filling the frontcourt void left by Anthony Davis' departure. The 7-footer doesn't turn 24 until December, and considering he's an elite rim-runner, he should be the perfect partner for Doncic's penchant for pinpoint lobs. Much like Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington improved exponentially playing alongside with Doncic last season in Dallas following spells in Washington and Charlotte, respectively, expect Williams to experience a similar rise with the Lakers<em>. - Chandler</em></p><p><em>Update: the trade sending Williams to the Lakers was rescinded Saturday.</em></p><h3>Which team will regret not doing more?</h3><p><strong>Chicago Bulls:</strong> Chicago finally parted with Zach LaVine by inserting itself into the De'Aaron Fox deal between the Spurs and Kings, allowing the Bulls to recoup their own first-rounder in this year's draft. But that was the only draft capital they got for the 29-year-old shooting a career-best 51.1% from the floor and 44.6% from deep in one of his best offensive seasons in Chicago. They also didn't cash in on Nikola Vucevic, who's in the midst of his own scoring resurgence and whose contract expires after next season. The front office feels Vucevic will garner more value in the offseason, according to <a href="https://x.com/JCowleyHoops/status/1887586118809333883">Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times</a>, but that reasoning is confusing at best considering the 6-foot-10 center will be 35 when next season tips off. The Bulls and falling flat at the trade deadline: name a more iconic duo. <em>- Soveta</em></p><p><strong>Denver Nuggets:</strong> The Nuggets are back in the championship mix, but they aren't without their flaws. The Nuggets rank 27th in bench scoring (28.1 points per contest) and 29th in triples made (167). The team could've also used a backup center with DeAndre Jordan, Zeke Nnaji, and Dario Saric not inspiring much confidence. Michael Malone's offense has struggled immensely when Jokic sits. They're scoring 10.8 <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/team/1610612743/onoffcourt-summary?dir=D&amp;sort=DIFF_OFF_RATING">fewer</a> points per 100 possessions when Jordan's on the floor and 26 fewer with Nnaji on the court. Meanwhile, Saric has completely fallen out of the rotation - his last appearance came nearly a month ago. An inability to buy minutes for Jokic could come back to haunt Denver in the playoffs.<em><strong> </strong>- Nacion</em></p><p><strong>Milwaukee Bucks:</strong> After failing to land Butler or a player of his caliber, the Bucks acquired Kyle Kuzma in a trade that sent former All-Star Khris Middleton to the lowly Wizards. Middleton's underwhelming performance limits Milwaukee's championship window, sure, but so does Kuzma, who's shooting career-worst percentages from everywhere on the court. The Bucks also didn't add a significant bench piece, taking swings on end-of-rotation players like Kevin Porter Jr. and Jericho Sims. Hunter ticks all the necessary boxes for a 3-and-D wing: he's a high-level, multipositional defender averaging a career-best 19 points while shooting nearly 40% from downtown. If he can stay healthy, Hunter will be a valuable piece on a Cleveland squad primed for a postseason run. - <em>Tittley</em></p><p><strong>Washington Wizards:</strong> There's no point in half-assing a tank with a generational star like Cooper Flagg available in the 2025 draft. The Wizards, who enter Friday's action in dead last, three games back of the Pelicans in the win column, made their intentions very clear. Kuzma, Jonas Valanciunas, Marvin Bagley, and others were discarded. In return, the Wizards bolstered an already bountiful draft haul with three first-round picks, four second-round picks, and a first-round pick swap. They also acquired Alex Len's expiring deal, Reggie Jackson (who was immediately waived), and veteran duo Marcus Smart and Khris Middleton, who should both be easy to move in the offseason. This is how you tank.<em> - Chandler</em></p><p><strong>San Antonio Spurs</strong><em> - </em>You're forgiven if a whirlwind deadline finale made you forget how well the Spurs set themselves up for years to come. The veteran guard isn't having the greatest offensive campaign, but he's a career 36.9% 3-point shooter and would bolster any team in need of floor spacing. Harris has remained an effective perimeter defender in limited minutes. The Magic are <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/team/1610612753/onoffcourt-summary?dir=D&amp;sort=DIFF_DEF_RATING">allowing</a> seven fewer points per 100 possessions this season when he's on the floor. He was an important part of Orlando's third-ranked defense a year ago, ranking fifth on the team in steals and sixth in deflections. <em> - Nacion</em></p><p><strong>Bruce Brown:</strong> The 28-year-old wing doesn't entirely fit the Pelicans' timeline after coming over in the Brandon Ingram trade. Brown's playoff pedigree would better be served for a contender rather than the basement-dwelling Pelicans. The versatile wing contributed 12 points, four rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.1 steals over the Nuggets' championship run in 2023. Despite recent injury trouble, Brown's averaged 10.3 points over his last 10. Teams like the Nuggets, Lakers, and Celtics could use Brown's services. - <em>Higney</em></p><p><strong>Larry Nance Jr.: </strong>Atlanta's front office decided to embrace its youth and build around the young, athletic wings on the roster. It's become clear the Hawks are trying to rebuild on the fly even though they don't possess their 2025 first-round pick, making Nance's versatility and expiring deal surplus to requirements. Nance’s 3-point shooting, defense, and elite cutting will attract multiple suitors, the most intriguing being the Rockets and Kings. Pairing the Wyoming product with a playmaker like Alperen Sengun or Domantas Sabonis would be fascinating. He spent his entire 17-year career with the Arizona Cardinals and was a monster during their 2008 run to the Super Bowl. </p><p><strong>Bill Belichick: </strong>Coaches now have only a one-season <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/bill-belichick-will-become-eligible-for-pro-football-hall-of-fame-in-the-class-of-2026">waiting period</a> to become eligible, and Belichick fulfilled that time by sitting out in 2024. The six-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots is presumably a no-brainer next year.</p><p><strong>Philip Rivers</strong>: The longtime San Diego and Los Angeles Charger threw for 63,440 passing yards in 17 seasons, ranking sixth in league history. He was a prolific pocket passer who started 252 consecutive games from 2006-2020.</p><p><strong>Jason Witten</strong>: The 11-time Pro Bowler is among the best players in Dallas Cowboys history. He racked up 13,046 receiving yards in his 17-year run in the NFL, only behind Tony Gonzalez for most all time by a tight end.</p><p><strong>Frank Gore</strong>: Gore was one of the most consistent players of his era. The physical running back totaled exactly 16,000 career rushing yards, the third most in league history, across 16 NFL seasons.</p><p><strong>Julian Edelman</strong>: Edelman wasn't the most productive receiver in the regular season, posting 620 receptions, 6,822 yards, and 36 touchdowns in 137 games with the Patriots. However, the one-time Super Bowl MVP and three-time Super Bowl winner's 118 receptions and 1,442 yards in the postseason are third in NFL history behind only Jerry Rice and Travis Kelce.</p><p><strong>LeSean McCoy</strong>: The Eagles' all-time leading rusher secured six Pro Bowl nominations and two first-team All-Pro nods during his 12-year career. He was never one of the sport's best quarterbacks, but his two Super Bowl titles and Super Bowl MVPs with the New York Giants will likely send him to Canton eventually.</p><p><strong>Luke Kuechly</strong>: Kuechly's exclusion from the 2025 class was a surprise, and it only happened because of his relatively short career. That said, the Carolina Panthers legend should be one of the favorites for induction in 2026.</p><p><strong>Adam Vinatieri</strong>: Like Kuechly, Vinatieri was a top-seven finalist, making him an automatic finalist again next year. We expect the most clutch kicker of all time to get in during his second year of eligibility.</p><p><strong>Willie Anderson</strong>: Anderson's time is coming. As one of the best offensive tackles of his era, he's been a finalist for several years. He made the cut to seven in 2025, so the four-time Pro Bowler's case remains on the right track.</p><p><strong>Jahri Evans</strong>: A longtime protector for Brees, Evans was a staple on the Saints' offensive line for 11 seasons. He missed only nine games during his career and won Super Bowl XLIV with the Saints.</p><p><strong>Torry Holt:</strong> It'll be harder for Holt to make it next year with some surefire locks becoming eligible - including another wide receiver in Fitzgerald - but Holt has been a finalist for six straight years.</p><p><strong>Reggie Wayne</strong>: The former Indianapolis Colts wideout was one of Peyton Manning's top weapons for over a decade. Wayne made six Pro Bowls and was a three-time All-Pro.</p><p><strong>Steve Smith Sr.</strong>: Smith's 1,031 receptions (12th) and 14,731 yards (eighth) are among the most the game's ever seen. The Panthers' all-time receiving leader also scored 81 receiving touchdowns in his career.</p><p><strong>Terrell Suggs</strong>: Suggs was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 and was one of the most intimidating edge rushers in his heyday. He sits eighth on the NFL's all-time sacks leaderboard, ahead of 2025 inductee Jared Allen.</p><p><strong>Fred Taylor</strong>: There weren't many players more instrumental to the Jaguars winning their first division title in 1998 when Taylor ran for 1,223 yards and 14 touchdowns. Just one Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro may keep him waiting despite 14,079 yards and 74 touchdowns from scrimmage.</p><p><strong>Darren Woodson</strong>: The Dallas Cowboys' all-time leading tackler was a stalwart of their defense in the '90s when the team won three Super Bowls. The former safety was a finalist for the Hall of Fame for the third straight year in 2025.</p><p><strong>Marshal Yanda</strong>: A model of consistency, Yanda made the NFL's 2010s All-Decade Team at guard. He'll hope to get the call next year when he's on the ballot for the second time.</p>

This is where Antonio Conte's brilliance must come to the fore: The fans aren't stewing over the loss of Khvicha "Kvaradona" Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain because his troops are defying the odds atop Serie A thanks to his siege mentality. <strong>Grade: D</strong></p><h3>3. <a id="Arsenal" name="Arsenal">Arsenal</a> 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿</h3><p><em>Previous: 6</em> 📈</p><p>Arsenal's <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3205790" href="https://thescore.com/news/3205790">reported</a> £60-million approach for Ollie Watkins was rejected, and his Aston Villa teammate, Jhon Duran, departed for Saudi Arabia soon after. The Arsenal-Watkins transfer saga was over before it hardly began. Although Mikel Arteta's side blitzed Manchester City on Sunday, the failure to sign Watkins or another striker could haunt Arsenal when opportunities to decide tighter matches fall at the feet of Kai Havertz. <strong>Grade: D</strong></p><h3>4. <a id="Inter Milan" name="Inter%20Milan">Inter Milan</a> 🇮🇹</h3><p><em>Previous: 2 </em>📉</p><p>Nobody could've foreseen the instant impact of Inter Milan's lone signing. Although the Serie A title challengers had more departures than incoming players, Nicola Zalewski quickly endeared himself to fans by setting up the tying goal against AC Milan in his first game. The Nerazzurri were also busy preparing for the future. They'll have to bide their time for an opportunity after Neuer extended his contract until 2026 on deadline day. Bayern youngsters Mathys Tel, Arijon Ibrahimovic, Adam Aznou, and Frans Kratzig sought more game time out on loan. <strong>Grade: C+</strong></p><h3>7. <a id="Real Madrid" name="Real%20Madrid">Real Madrid</a> <a href="https://emojipedia.org/flag-spain">🇪🇸</a>

The obvious weakness in Carlo Ancelotti's squad is at right-back, especially after Dani Carvajal fell to a long-term knee injury in October. However, it seems the club couldn't strike an affordable January deal for Trent Alexander-Arnold, leaving a rotating cast covering that position until the Scouser's anticipated move to the Spanish capital when his Liverpool contract expires in June. They didn't add center-back depth, either. <strong>Grade: C-</strong></p><h3>8. <a id="Leverkusen" name="Leverkusen">Bayer Leverkusen</a> 🇩🇪</h3><p><em>Previous: 8 </em>⚖️</p><p>Al-Nassr ending their pursuit of Victor Boniface to sign Jhon Duran instead could be a big help to Bayer Leverkusen. The Nigerian striker scored in his first match back after being restored to Xabi Alonso's first-team squad. Elsewhere, Leverkusen have made under-the-radar signings that could prove to be very effective, with hard-working playmaker Emi Buendia and experienced defender Mario Hermoso both joining on loan. <strong>Grade: B+</strong></p><h3>9. <a id="Atletico Madrid" name="Atletico%20Madrid">Atletico Madrid</a> <a href="https://emojipedia.org/flag-spain">🇪🇸</a>
</h3><p><em>Previous: 4 </em>📉</p><p>Atletico Madrid emptied their pockets at the checkout last summer when they bought Julian Alvarez, Conor Gallagher, Robin Le Normand, and Alexander Sorloth. So it's not a great surprise that they didn't sign anybody in January. Diego Simeone boasts a squad that can challenge for major honors over the second half of the campaign. The coach needs to rotate his players to ensure they stay fit. <strong>Grade: C-</strong></p><h3>10. <a id="Barcelona" name="Barcelona">Barcelona</a> <a href="https://emojipedia.org/flag-spain">🇪🇸</a>

Crucially, they also registered Dani Olmo. <strong>Grade: B</strong></p><h3>11. <a id="Lille" name="Lille">Lille</a> 🇫🇷</h3><p><em>Previous: 19 </em>📈</p><p>Lille must encourage Jonathan David to stay beyond his contract's expiration in June. There's no player within the French club's budget who can guarantee as many goals as the Canadian. Lille did sign striker Chuba Akpom on loan from Ajax with an option to buy, but he's a gamble after he failed to recreate his Middlesbrough form over 18 months in the Netherlands. <strong>Grade: C-</strong></p><h3>12. <a id="Nottingham Forest" name="Nottingham%20Forest">Nottingham Forest</a> 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿</h3><p><em>Previous: 12 </em>⚖️</p><p>Nottingham Forest don't want to meddle with a winning formula. Their most notable January move was James Ward-Prowse returning to West Ham United after a surprisingly ineffective loan spell. The club's restraint is commendable, especially when you consider its aggressive recruitment drives in previous windows. However, a few unfortunate injuries in the final months of the season could upset Nottingham Forest's unexpected Champions League qualification bid. <strong>Grade: B-</strong></p><h3>13. <a id="Atalanta" name="Atalanta">Atalanta</a> 🇮🇹</h3><p><em>Previous: 3 </em>📉</p><p>Stefan Posch's arrival should help relieve the pressure on Atalanta's defense, which hasn't kept a clean sheet in five of the last six games. But he won't move the needle in the title race. Atalanta should've targeted an experienced central midfielder, but they instead signed an unproven Daniel Maldini - while terminating Nicolo Zaniolo's loan - and were forced to shop for a defender after losing two center-backs to injury. <strong>Grade: C+</strong></p><h3>14. <a id="Bournemouth" name="Bournemouth">Bournemouth</a> 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿</h3><p><em>Previous: N/A </em>📈</p><p>Bournemouth are building for the future. The signing of 19-year-old Julio Soler indicates the Cherries are planning for when Milos Kerkez, arguably the Premier League's best left-back, potentially departs for big money in the summer. Eighteen-year-old defender Matai Akinmboni, who made his Major League Soccer debut for D.C. Still, 6-foot-4 striker Maroan Sannadi, who was born in the Basque capital of Vitoria-Gasteiz, joined from Alaves via a loan spell with third-tier Barakaldo for just €3 million, according to figures from <a href="https://www.transfermarkt.us/maroan-sannadi/profil/spieler/1054934">Transfermarkt</a>. Veteran midfielder Ander Herrera left the club for Boca Juniors. <strong>Grade: C</strong></p><h3>17. <a id="Newcastle" name="Newcastle">Newcastle United</a> 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿</h3><p><em>Previous: 13 </em>📉</p><p>The Premier League's financial rules have hamstrung Newcastle in recent transfer windows, so they prioritized sales in January. Alex Sarr (Wizards): </strong>Washington seems to have found its big man of the future in Sarr. The Frenchman is averaging 11.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while starting in all 41 games he's played. The 7-footer is tied for the lead among rookies in blocks per game (1.6), and he racked up a career-high five stuffs Jan. 21 against the Los Angeles Lakers.</p><p><strong>2. Kel'el Ware (Heat): </strong>Miami's big man has sprung into award contention with his recent level of play. Ware is averaging 14.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, 0.9 steals, and 1.6 blocks in 33.8 minutes per game since Jan. 19. The 7-footer is also doing this on 51.2% shooting and 37.9% from three. He's averaged 12.2 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.8 rebounds throughout the campaign and has become a regular in San Antonio's starting five.</p><h3>Defensive Player of the Year</h3><p><strong>3. Dyson Daniels (Hawks): </strong>Daniels has maintained his ball-swiping skills, continuing to lead the NBA with three steals per game. His 137 takeaways are 45 ahead of the next player (Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's 92). Only eight players have averaged more than three steals per game, including the likes of Magic Johnson, John Stockton, and Michael Jordan. Good company to be in.</p><p><strong>2. Jaren Jackson Jr. (Grizzlies): </strong>The 2023 winner is making another strong case this year. While not averaging as many blocks as in years past (1.6), Jackson is recording career-high numbers in steals per game (1.3). He's the only player to have more than 70 blocks and 60 steals this season, once again proving his versatility.</p><p><strong>1. Victor Wembanyama (Spurs): </strong>Wemby makes defense look effortless. The Spurs unicorn still leads the league with an otherworldly four blocks per game. Wemby has 161<strong> </strong>while no other player has reached 100. Evan Mobley (Cavs): </strong>Mobley has been a defensive juggernaut since entering the NBA, boasting career averages of 0.8 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. The defense is expected, but his offense is now grabbing attention. Mobley is averaging 18.3 points, 2.6 more than last season, and is shooting a personal-best 39.8% from three. The 23-year-old's efforts were recognized with his first All-Star Game selection.</p><p><strong>2. Norman Powell (Clippers): </strong>Becoming a regular starter has served Powell exceptionally well this season. He is putting up a career-high 24.1 points per game on impressive 49.9/43.6/83.1 shooting splits. His scoring average is first on the Clippers and 22nd in the NBA. He's also first on the Clippers and seventh in the Association in 3-point percentage. The former first overall pick is averaging career highs in points (25.3), assists (9.5), rebounds (6.3), shooting percentage (45.5<strong>%</strong>), and 3-point percentage (35.6<strong>%</strong>). He recently received his first All-Star nod and has guided Detroit to a 25-25 record, which is already a higher win total than either of the team's past two seasons. Cunningham is also sixth in the NBA with 1,889 points, rebounds, and assists combined.</p><h3>Sixth Man of the Year</h3><p><strong>3. Amen Thompson (Rockets):</strong> Thompson is enjoying his best stretch of basketball, averaging 18.4 points, 10.6 boards, 4.9 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.4 blocks over his past 14 appearances. The second-year forward is a terror in transition, an elite rebounder for his position, and can guard one through five. However, his recent uptick in production has come as a starter with Jabari Smith Jr. sidelined. Thompson only needs to make more appearances off the bench to be eligible for Sixth Man, but there's a good chance he stays in the Rockets' first five once Smith returns.</p><p><strong>2. De'Andre Hunter (Hawks):</strong> Hunter has embraced his role as the lead offensive option on the Hawks' second unit after starting 237 games over his first five NBA seasons. The Virginia product leads all reserves in scoring (18.9 points per contest)<strong> </strong>and free-throw attempts (176).<strong> </strong>His 40% clip on non-corner threes ranks in the 79th percentile among forwards, per <a href="https://cleaningtheglass.com/stats/player/4575#tab-shooting_accuracy">Cleaning the Glass</a>. Hunter's breakout campaign has reportedly drawn interest from other teams. A trade might take him out of the race as no player has been awarded Sixth Man after being dealt midseason.</p><p><strong>1. Payton Pritchard (Celtics):</strong> Pritchard isn't moving into the starting lineup anytime soon - or getting dealt at the trade deadline. The Celtics guard also has the production to back up his claim for Sixth Man, topping all bench players in total points (677) and plus-minus (plus-278). He's second among reserves in assists (166) and fifth in steals (44). Pritchard's career-high 13.8 points per game accounts for nearly half the Celtics' bench scoring. He's knocked down the eighth-most triples (155)<strong> </strong>in the Association despite playing less than 30 minutes per contest. Pritchard's 3.46 assist-to-turnover ratio is <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/players/advanced?CF=MIN*GE*15&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season&amp;dir=-1&amp;sort=AST_TO">19th</a> among qualified players.</p><h3>Coach of the Year</h3><p><strong>3. Mark Daigneault (Thunder): </strong>Daigneault has kept Oklahoma City chugging along as the team to beat in the Western Conference despite a few January hiccups. Though the Thunder suffered four of their nine losses that month, they still boasted the NBA's best overall net rating (11.6) after 14 games. Having an MVP candidate in <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nba/players/60411" href="https://thescore.com/nba/players/60411">Shai Gilgeous-Alexander</a> helps, but it's worth nothing that OKC had the league's top bench by the same metric while the starters were second to the Indiana Pacers.</p><p><strong>2. Kenny Atkinson (Cavaliers): </strong>A three-game skid from Jan. 22-25 in which each game was decided by four points or fewer has been the only extended blemish in Atkinson's sensational debut season in Cleveland. The 57-year-old has transformed the Cavs' offense so they now rank top three in points per possession by <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/ball-handler?dir=D&amp;sort=PPP">ball-handlers</a> <em>and</em> by <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/roll-man?dir=D&amp;sort=PPP">roll men</a> in pick and rolls. Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks): </strong>The Greek Freak is having a dominant season, averaging a career-high 31.8 points and 12.2 rebounds along with 5.9 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. Antetokounmpo has willed the Bucks to a 26-21 record through sheer determination and stellar play. A third MVP award could happen if his team improves.</p><p><strong>2. Nikola Jokic (Nuggets): </strong>Jokic remains out of this world, averaging 24.7 points, 12.3 rebounds, 11.8 assists, and 2.3 steals in just under 35 minutes a night in his past 14 contests. The 29-year-old still ranks in the top three in points, rebounds, and assists per game, but the Nuggets have lost three of their previous five games after rattling off a quartet of victories. Jokic will need his team to close the gap in the standings to solidify his case.</p><p><strong>1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Thunder): </strong>After finishing as the runner-up to Jokic last season, it seems as if everything is lining up for Gilgeous-Alexander to win his first trophy. The league's leading scorer at 32.5 points per game, SGA is taking care of the offense while contributing on the defensive end - ranking tied second in steals per game (2).</p>
