Cleveland Cavaliers (23-4)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>1</p><p><strong>An infinite supply of quarter-zips:</strong> Kenny Atkinson's work transforming the Cavs despite a mostly unchanged roster can't go unnoticed, so what better way for the team to thank him than by gifting the coach plenty of his favorite sideline apparel?</p><h3><a id="BOS" name="BOS">3. Boston Celtics (21-5)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>2</p><p><strong>VR simulator:</strong> The Celtics remain the team to beat even though they aren't atop the standings. Boston doesn't have many weaknesses and is just hoping to enter the playoffs healthy.</p><h3><a id="DAL" name="DAL">4. Dallas Mavericks (17-9)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>11</p><p><strong>All the boards:</strong> Whiteboards, blackboards, bristol boards, motherboards ... the type doesn't matter, as long as they serve to remind Dallas it's allowing the third-most offensive boards in the league, a mark that needs improving.</p><h3><a id="MEM" name="MEM">5. The Canadian is averaging 8.8 points on 65.5% shooting to go along with 6.2 boards as a member of the first five, with the Grizzlies going 13-4 during that span.</p><h3><a id="MIL" name="MIL">6. Milwaukee Bucks (14-11)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>12</p><p><strong>Chemistry set:</strong> Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, and Khris Middleton have played only 47 minutes together this season. The Bucks won't go deep in the playoffs if their star trio doesn't develop any continuity.</p><h3><a id="HOU" name="HOU">7. Houston Rockets (17-9)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>4</p><p><strong>A bucket:</strong> The Rockets are one of only four teams without a 20-point scorer. But Houston has a winning record, unlike those other clubs. A big-time scorer would give the team a chance at the No. 1 seed in the West.</p><h3><a id="NYK" name="NYK">8. New York Knicks (16-10)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>9</p><p><strong>Receipt for Bridges:</strong> The Knicks gave up four unprotected first-round picks and a pick swap to acquire Mikal Bridges from the Nets. He's averaging just 17 points and has been a turnstile on defense - not exactly worth the sticker price.</p><h3><a id="ORL" name="ORL">9. Orlando Magic (17-11)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>5</p><p><strong>1970s glam workout video:</strong> The Magic should be willing to try anything to strengthen their oblique muscles. Both Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner are out with torn obliques; maybe some '70s workouts could rejuvenate them.</p><h3><a id="MIA" name="MIA">10. The Heat would love some new luggage to help Butler pack his bags and make his exit as smooth as possible.</p><h3><a id="DEN" name="DEN">11. Denver Nuggets (14-10)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>10</p><p><strong>Bubble bath:</strong> Jamal Murray averaged 24.4 points on 50.2% shooting in the 2020 bubble but has never replicated those numbers. Denver would be in a much better situation if it had bubble Murray to pair with Nikola Jokic.</p><h3><a id="MIN" name="MIN">12. Minnesota Timberwolves (14-11)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>16</p><p><strong>Group package to an escape room:</strong> Minnesota's won six of seven since Anthony Edwards called out the roster for not being able to talk to each other. They should keep that camaraderie going by locking themselves in the same environment for an hour.</p><h3><a id="ATL" name="ATL">13. Atlanta Hawks (14-13)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>17</p><p><strong>I ❤️ N.Y. shirt:</strong> The Garden always seems to bring the best out of Trae Young. The Hawks guard had another strong showing in front of the Knicks faithful, posting 22 points and 11 assists in last week's NBA Cup quarterfinal win.</p><h3><a id="PHX" name="PHX">14. Phoenix Suns (14-11)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>8</p><p><strong>Protective wrapping:</strong> The Suns are 13-2 when Kevin Durant plays but 1-9 when he isn't available. Phoenix needs bubble wrap to protect Durant's legs and avoid any further injuries for the 36-year-old.</p><h3><a id="GSW" name="GSW">15. Some daily bedtime shooting practice should help rectify that.</p><h3><a id="LAC" name="LAC">16. Los Angeles Clippers (15-12)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>14</p><p><strong>Baby Yoda toy:</strong> The aforementioned "Star Wars" toy was all the rage in December 2019, and Kawhi Leonard was arguably the best player in the world at the time after winning a title. Imagine if that version of Leonard was on this scrappy Clippers squad.</p><h3><a id="LAL" name="LAL">17. Los Angeles Lakers (14-12)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>13</p><p><strong>Foot massager:</strong> LeBron James is already experiencing soreness in his lower extremities, missing eight days during a recent spell. A high-quality machine will keep James' feet relaxed and the Lakers' playoff chances afloat.</p><h3><a id="SAS" name="SAS">18. San Antonio Spurs (13-13)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>15</p><p><strong>Weightlifting classes:</strong> Victor Wembanyama is 7-foot-3 but attempts 51.4% of his shots from beyond 20 feet and just 28.5% from within five feet. Some extra size would make Wemby a terror in the paint.</p><h3><a id="SAC" name="SAC">19. Sacramento Kings (13-14)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: </em>20</p><p><strong>Batteries:</strong> The Kings love to light the beam, but with a 6-8 home record, it doesn't happen much. They haven't won back-to-back games in Sacramento this season, canceling out any home-court advantage the team could have had.</p><h3><a id="IND" name="IND">20. Chicago Bulls (12-15)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>24</p><p><strong>A red light:</strong> It's been a parade to the basket in Chicago. The Bulls give up a league-worst 23.2 made field goals within five feet and are allowing opponents to shoot 65.5% at the rim.</p><h3><a id="DET" name="DET">22. Detroit Pistons (11-16)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>21</p><p><strong>Gorilla Glue:</strong> The Pistons would be catapulted up the standings if they had a little more ball security. Cade Cunningham is tied with Trae Young for the most turnovers per game at 4.6.</p><h3><a id="BKN" name="BKN">23. Brooklyn Nets (10-16)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>22</p><p><strong>White flag:</strong> Brooklyn appears to have given up on the playoffs after dealing Dennis Schroder to the Warriors. The Nets can offload more veterans ahead of the trade deadline to bolster their draft lottery hopes.</p><h3><a id="POR" name="POR">24. Portland Trail Blazers (8-18)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>23</p><p><strong>Jordan's secret stuff from 'Space Jam':</strong> Scoot Henderson is in desperate need of a boost. The second-year guard is averaging fewer points, rebounds, and assists this season compared to his rookie campaign, largely off the bench.</p><h3><a id="PHI" name="PHI">25. Charlotte Hornets (7-19)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>26</p><p><strong>Laser tag gift certificate:</strong> The Hornets hold the worst field-goal percentage in the NBA at 42.9%. A team outing to laser tag would give them a chance to practice their shooting.</p><h3><a id="TOR" name="TOR">27. Toronto Raptors (7-20)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>25</p><p><strong>A new barbecue:</strong> Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, and Immanuel Quickley have yet to play together this season. Quickley has missed 24 games, while Barnes has sat out 13. Injuries have killed the flame on Toronto's grill.</p><h3><a id="UTA" name="UTA">28. Utah Jazz (5-20)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>28</p><p><strong>Air Miles:</strong> John Collins is averaging 18 points on 53.4% field-goal shooting, with 8.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and two stocks. The Jazz need to put the tank in drive and fly him to a winning franchise.</p><h3><a id="NOP" name="NOP">29. New Orleans Pelicans (5-22)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>29</p><p><strong>Good health insurance: </strong>The Pelicans have been leveled by injuries this year. New Orleans is only a couple of months into the season, and the team has already lost 14 players to injury for a total of 127 games missed.</p><h3><a id="WAS" name="WAS">30. Washington Wizards (3-21)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>30</p><p><strong>Lottery luck:</strong> The Wizards have been awful this year, sitting at 3-21 and recent losers of 16 straight. But the best odds at the No. 1 pick and Cooper Flagg mean nothing without a little fortune on their side.</p>

Philadelphia Eagles (12-2)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 4</em></p><p>Philadelphia quieted the critics with a tremendous offensive performance against the Steelers after a week of drama surrounding A.J. Brown and Jalen Hurts. The Eagles will be hard to beat in January if their passing game and high-powered rushing attack stay consistent.</p><h3><a id="DET" name="DET">3. Detroit Lions (12-2)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 1</em></p><p>Detroit got terrible injury news Monday, as David Montgomery and Alim McNeill will miss the rest of the season due to knee injuries. Dan Campbell, Ben Johnson, and Aaron Glenn are excellent coaches, but the Lions' long list of injuries might be too much to overcome.</p><h3><a id="KC" name="KC">4. Kansas City Chiefs (13-1)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 3</em></p><p>Patrick Mahomes was dragging the carcass of the two-time reigning Super Bowl champs toward home-field advantage in the postseason. He might find it tougher to do so now with a reported high ankle sprain. Mahomes' recovery will determine how much momentum is behind the Chiefs before the playoffs.</p><h3><a id="MIN" name="MIN">5. </ul><p>Three of those 10 squads went on to win the title, and of the seven that didn't, four reached at least the conference finals. That list was cut off at 10 for brevity's sake, but you have to go back nearly three decades to finally find better: the 13.4 net rating posted by the 72-10 Chicago Bulls in 1995-96. It's clear we're watching something historic take shape in OKC. - <em>Jonathan Soveta</em></p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p><strong>Warriors' deep rotation: </strong>Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr raised some eyebrows when he rolled with a 12-man rotation in the club's season opener against the Portland Trail Blazers. It's a formula Kerr used during his first title run with the franchise, and he's remained committed to the Warriors' depth nearly one-third through the season. Twelve different players are playing at least 13 minutes. It's allowed them to be more aggressive defensively with so many different faces cycling in. Golden State ranks second in the NBA in bench scoring (46.6 points per contest). It's getting contributions from young pieces, veterans, and unlikely sources. Experimenting with different lineups now will help Kerr when he inevitably shortens his rotation in the postseason. In the meantime, the Warriors' strength in numbers is keeping Stephen Curry fresh for the stretch run.<em><strong> </strong>- Chicco Nacion</em></p><p><strong>Knicks clicking offensively: </strong>After ranking in the top 10 in offensive and defensive ratings last season, the Knicks have jumped to another level in scoring and efficiency. The league's third-best offense belongs to New York, holding a 119.7<strong> </strong>offensive rating. Despite ranking seventh in points per game (116.4), the Knicks are scoring almost four more points per game compared to last season (112.8). Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson are each averaging close to 25 points a contest, and four other players are contributing double digits. However, the Knicks' usually stout defense is more susceptible to breakdowns - dropping from ninth to 16th in defensive rating between seasons. But the Pelicans gave up real assets for Murray, trading Dyson Daniels to acquire the 28-year-old from the Atlanta Hawks. Daniels has been a revelation for Atlanta, averaging career highs in points (13.4) and rebounds (5.1) while also leading the league with three steals per game. Murray, meanwhile, required surgery to fix a broken left hand he sustained in his Pelicans debut, forcing the former All-Star to miss 17 games. Murray was supposed to be the team's lead on-ball creator when Zion Williamson inevitably missed time; Williamson has appeared in only six games this season. Murray is having his worst statistical season since the 2020-21 campaign, averaging just 16.6 points while shooting 36.4% from the field and 28.1% from three. <em> - Thomas Tittley</em></p><p><strong>Mikal Bridges: </strong>The Knicks might be on an offensive upswing as a whole (as mentioned above), but<strong> </strong>the front office is surely dealing with buyer's remorse over the significant package it sent the Brooklyn Nets in July for Bridges. New York coughed up four unprotected first-rounders, the Bucks' top-four protected pick in 2025, and the right to swap 2028 first-round selections (plus a little more), all under the assumption it was supplementing its well-rounded roster with the dynamic two-way talent that excelled on the Suns and Nets. Instead, New York mortgaged its team-building flexibility for the rest of the decade for someone whose statistical profile better <a href="https://stathead.com/tiny/y51LK">resembles</a> guys you probably wouldn't sacrifice one unprotected pick for, let alone four. One name on that list is intriguing, though: 2003-04 Richard Hamilton. But unlike Hamilton's title-winning Detroit Pistons, Bridges' 2024-25 defense has been underwhelming; the Knicks <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/players/defense?CF=TEAM_ABBREVIATION*E*nyk&amp;dir=D&amp;sort=OPP_PTS_2ND_CHANCE">surrender</a> the most second-chance points (10.2 per game) <em>and</em> paint points (38.4) when he's on the floor. <em>- Soveta</em></p><p><strong>Paul George: </strong>The nine-time All-Star was supposed to relieve some of the burden on Joel Embiid and help the Philadelphia 76ers navigate through the latter's injury absences. Instead, George's lack of durability has become another headache on top of Embiid's continued struggles to stay healthy. George has been in and out of the lineup as he manages a knee injury. He's missed at least one half of a back-to-back set on two occasions. Even when George has suited up, he's looked like a shell of himself. The six-time All-NBA selection is having his lowest-scoring season since 2014-15 and has seen a significant drop in his 3-point percentage and field-goal percentage. Since the keys to the offense were fully turned over to Barnes after the Pascal Siakam trade in January, he has appeared in 34 out of a possible 68 contests. Even if the 23-year-old's injury helps Toronto's chances of contending for a top pick in the seemingly star-studded 2025 draft, he and the rest of the team are losing out on building more of a connection together on the court. With Immanuel Quickley also sidelined by an elbow injury, the organization has to wait longer for key pieces to all play together. <em>- Higney</em></p><p><strong>Joel Embiid</strong>: The Process might be over for the Philadelphia 76ers: Embiid is 30, has undergone multiple procedures on his left knee – missing 17 games with lingering knee problems - and he sustained a sinus fracture Friday. The Kansas product has looked like a shell of himself when he has been healthy, averaging his fewest points since his first full season in the league and shooting just 41.1% from the field. The Sixers have the league's sixth-lowest point differential (minus-5.3) and have accumulated only seven wins, placing them 12th in the East. Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain look like foundational pieces Philly can build upon but now the latter's out long term, too. But Memphis' bounce-back wouldn't be possible without the unlikely contributions from Jay Huff, Scotty Pippen Jr., and Jaylen Wells. - <em>Nacion</em></p><p><strong>Dallas Mavericks: </strong>Coming off a seven-game winning streak, the Mavericks are rounding back into their Finals form in December. Luka Doncic remains potent, averaging a robust 28.9 points, 8.6 rebounds, 8.2 assists, and 2.1 steals per game. Kyrie Irving is adding 23.9 points, along with a scorching 46.8% 3-point field goal percentage. The supporting cast is contributing, as offseason additions Klay Thompson, Naji Marshall, and Quentin Grimes have combined for 34.6 points per game while Daniel Gafford is leading the league in 2-point field goal percentage (73.8) and Dereck Lively is just behind him (68.8). The Mavs’ balance and star power will lead them deep into the playoffs again. <em>- Higney</em></p><p><strong>Houston Rockets: </strong>Apart from the Thunder, the Rockets have the most intimidating defense in the Association, possessing a defensive rating of 105.3. A team hasn't recorded such a low rating since the 2019-20 campaign when the Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks had ratings of 104.7 and 102.5, respectively. Because of their prowess on that end of the floor, the Rockets have a chance at winning every game - Houston has lost by double digits only twice this campaign. Amen Thompson, Tari Eason, Jabari Smith Jr., and Dillon Brooks are all capable of guarding a variety of positions and player profiles, while Fred VanVleet is one of the better on-ball defenders in the league. The Rockets are also built to withstand injury. With seven double-digit scorers, Houston won't tumble down the standings if a key player is forced to miss an extended period of time. <em>- Tittley</em></p>

Jaylen Wells (Grizzlies): </strong>Zach Edey was expected to be the best rookie in Memphis, but second-round pick Wells has taken that spot. Wells sits fourth in the NBA in rookie scoring per game (11.5) and third in made 3-pointers (46). The Washington State product is shooting 45.2% from the field while holding the second-best plus-minus among rookies (plus-58).</p><p><strong>2. Stephon Castle (Spurs): </strong>Castle has showcased himself as a talented NBA guard since entering the starting lineup. He's averaging 14.6 points and 4.5 assists through 17<strong> </strong>starts, compared to 6.0 points and<strong> </strong>2.3 assists as a reserve. He holds season averages of 12.1 points and 3.8 assists on 38.6% shooting. Castle also leads rookies in loose balls recovered (0.6) and clutch-time points per game (2.5).</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p><strong>1. Jared McCain (76ers):</strong> The lone bright spot for an awful 76ers team besieged by key absences and locker-room turmoil, McCain has cooled down since a red-hot November stretch in which he averaged 26.1 points across a seven-game span. He leads all rookies in scoring (15.8), though his minutes are likely to be reduced following Paul George's return.</p><h3>Defensive Player of the Year</h3><p><strong>3. Jaren Jackson Jr. (Grizzlies):</strong> Jackson anchors the Grizzlies' seventh-ranked defensive unit, posting 3.3 stocks (steals and blocks) per contest. He's one of <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/leaders?CF=STL*GE*1:BLK*GE*1.5">five</a> players in the Association averaging at least one steal and 1.5 blocks. Memphis surrenders nearly six fewer points per 100 possessions when Jackson's on the floor. He's provided ample resistance at the rim, limiting opponents to just 50% shooting on attempts within six feet.</p><p><strong>2. Dyson Daniels (Hawks):</strong> The Australian's knack for steals has earned him "The Great Barrier Thief" nickname. Daniels leads the NBA in steals (3.2) and has 59 more deflections than the closest player. The Hawks guard is within striking distance of the single-season mark set by Alvin Robertson in 1985-86. Opponents are shooting only 46.8% against Wembanyama on attempts within 6 feet of the basket, which is <a href="https://www.nba.com/stats/players/defense-dash-lt6?CF=FGA_LT_06*GE*100&amp;dir=A&amp;sort=LT_06_PCT&amp;PerMode=Totals">third</a> among players who've defended at least 100 field goals. The Spurs star also ranks seventh in contested twos (7.5) and 14th in deflections (3.2).</p><h3>Most Improved Player</h3><p><strong>3. Jalen Johnson (Hawks): </strong>Johnson has always been a defensive menace, holding an impressive 110.7 career defensive rating while averaging career<strong> </strong>highs in steals (1.3) and blocks (1.1) this season. However, it's his stellar offense that's drawing attention this campaign. He's improved his points per game by 3.8 from last year (19.8) while shooting a career-best 36% from three and adding new highs in rebounds (9.9) and assists (5.5).</p><p><strong>2. Jalen Williams (Thunder): </strong>J-Dub has been playing the four with Chet Holmgren injured and has been electric, averaging more than 20 points a game (22) for the first time in his career while improving his rebounding average by 2.1 (6.1) from last season. His stout 103.6 defensive rating while playing out of position has helped OKC to the third-best net rating in NBA history (11.9) behind only the 1995-96 and 1996-97 Chicago Bulls.</p><p><strong>1. Franz Wagner (Magic): </strong>Despite currently being sidelined with a torn right oblique, Wagner is still our MIP favorite due to the way he stepped into stardom after Paolo Banchero's injury. The German put up 26.1 points per game in 20 contests without Banchero, leading Orlando to third place in the East. The 23-year-old is averaging career highs in most major statistical categories.</p><h3>Sixth Man of the Year</h3><p><strong>3. De'Andre Hunter (Hawks): </strong>The Hawks wing overtook Golden State Warriors sharpshooter Buddy Hield for the bronze position due to the latter's recent struggles from the field. After coming back from a 10-game absence, Hunter has recorded at least 20 points in seven of his 11 contests while backing up top pick Zaccharie Risacher. Atlanta now has flexibility with Hunter while its prized prospect develops.</p><p><strong>2. Amen Thompson (Rockets): </strong>While teammate Tari Eason has also been an impressive reserve for the Rockets, Thompson's defensive responsibility has increased as the season has progressed. The second-year wing is quietly becoming the team's best defender as a reserve; he has the lowest opponent field-goal percentage in Houston's main rotation (42%). Averaging a career-high 16.1 points, the Celtics guard has become known for his offensive runs - including scoring 19 straight points in a contest against the Bulls. The 26-year-old is on track to run away with the hardware.</p><h3>Coach of the Year</h3><p><strong>3. J.B. Bickerstaff (Pistons): </strong>After finishing dead last in the NBA each of the previous two seasons, the Pistons are only<strong> </strong>four<strong> </strong>victories away from matching their 14-win total from the 2023-24 campaign. Bickerstaff has brought Detroit's offense into the 21st century: The Pistons are taking 15% more 3-pointers this season than they were under former coach Monty Williams, whose squad ranked 27th in threes per game.</p><p><strong>2. Jamahl Mosley (Magic): </strong>Mosley has led the Magic to<strong> </strong>a 17-9<strong> </strong>record despite missing Banchero, who's been out since the beginning of November. Orlando can thank its third-ranked defense, which forces opponents to turn the ball over on 15.4% of their possessions, for propelling the team up the standings. Mosley could rise to No. 1 if Orlando maintains this form despite recently losing Wagner for at least a month with Banchero still out.</p><p><strong>1. Ime Udoka (Rockets): </strong>Udoka has imprinted his personality on this 16-8 Rockets squad. Houston doesn't have a 20-point scorer, instead spreading the love with seven rotation players averaging more than 10 points per game. Despite Alperen Sengun being a below-average rim-protector, Houston is forcing opponents to shoot 60% at the rim, the third-lowest mark in the Association.</p><h3>Most Valuable Player</h3><p><em>Check out our most recent <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3094589" href="https://thescore.com/news/3094589">MVP Rankings</a> for a detailed look at the top 10 candidates for the award.</em></p><p><strong>3. Giannis Antetokounmpo (Bucks):</strong> Antetokounmpo replaces Anthony Davis at No. 3 as the Lakers have dropped seven of their last 10, with Davis having back-to-back season-low performances during the losing skid. The Bucks, meanwhile, have turned things around thanks to the Greek Freak's outstanding play. The NBA's leading scorer (32.5) is also averaging 11.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists.</p><p><strong>2. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Thunder): </strong>It's hard to argue against the No. 1 option from the top team in the West who also happens to be the NBA's fourth-leading scorer. Hughes, Guentzel, and Connor can provide elite offensive instincts, while veterans Trocheck, Miller, and Nelson are dependable two-way players that can be used in all situations. At the 2016 World Cup - the last time we saw a best-on-best hockey tournament - the States were criticized for an overemphasis on grit. The team seems to have learned from its mistake.</p><p>It's no surprise Brady Tkachuk was added to the roster after brother Matthew made the initial cut in June. All three are capable of winning games on their own, but Hellebuyck will be the guy for USA. He proved himself as a top goalie over the past two seasons and is in incredible form at the moment.</p><p>Oettinger and Swayman haven't been as good as Hellebuyck this season but are playoff-proven and shouldn't have any issue behind such a deep roster. It remains to be seen if Oettinger and Swayman will get ice time over the reigning Vezina Trophy winner, but they're terrific security blankets.</p>

Oklahoma owns the NBA's best defensive rating (103.9) by leading the league in steals (11.9) and allowing the fewest points in the paint (41.6).</p><h3><a id="HOU" name="HOU">4. Houston Rockets (15-7)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>8</p><p><strong>Dominating the glass:</strong> The Rockets lead the NBA in both offensive and defensive rebounds per game, showing that the effort is there. If they can get hot from deep while maintaining that rebounding, they can overwhelm opponents.</p><h3><a id="ORL" name="ORL">5. This is outstanding production from guys on two-way deals.</p><h3><a id="GSW" name="GSW">7. Golden State Warriors (12-8)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>2</p><p><strong>Shutting down threes:</strong> The Warriors have built a reputation for draining 3-pointers, but it's their defense there that may be more impressive. Opponents are shooting a league-worst 33.1% from deep, giving the Warriors extra slack for when their own shots aren't falling.</p><h3><a id="PHX" name="PHX">8. Phoenix Suns (12-8)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>5</p><p><strong>The 3-point line: </strong>The Suns are one of four teams who sit in the top ten in both 3-point attempts and 3-point percentage.<strong> </strong>Phoenix also boasts six rotation players shooting at least 39% from deep.</p><h3><a id="NYK" name="NYK">9. New York Knicks (13-8)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>12</p><p><strong>OG Anunoby thriving:</strong> While Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns have driven the offense, New York's starting wing is averaging a career-high 17.4 points. He put on a spectacle against the Nuggets, and his 40 points represented a personal best.</p><h3><a id="DEN" name="DEN">10. Milwaukee Bucks (11-9)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>25</p><p><strong>Offensive resurgence:</strong> Over their seven-game winning streak, the Bucks have the fourth-best offensive rating (120.1) in the NBA. Giannis Antetokounmpo is leading the league in scoring, while Damian Lillard is chipping in 26 points.</p><h3><a id="LAL" name="LAL">13. Los Angeles Lakers (12-9)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>6</p><p><strong>Anthony Davis' health:</strong> Davis missed 140 contests across his first five campaigns in L.A., but he's played in all but one game this year and is showcasing his MVP-caliber skill as the focal point of coach JJ Redick's offensive schemes.</p><h3><a id="LAC" name="LAC">14. Los Angeles Clippers (14-9)</a></h3><p><em>Previous: </em>15</p><p><strong>Staying afloat without Kawhi:</strong> The Clippers are still in the heart of a tight playoff race because they're beating who they should (8-1 against under-.500 teams). He posted a 2.02 ERA with 0.88 WHIP and 524 strikeouts over 414 2/3 innings across five years with the Chiba Lotte Marines. The right-hander also helped his country win the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Sasaki could be the final piece for a World Series contender or the cornerstone of a rebuild. He'll be on every team's radar. - <em>Ruminski</em></p><p><strong>Corbin Burnes:</strong> There aren't too many legitimate aces available in free agency, but Burnes is one of them. The right-hander's been one of the major's top starters since 2020, ranking second in fWAR behind Zack Wheeler. He's also finished in the top eight in Cy Young voting - winning in 2021 - in five consecutive seasons. The 30-year-old will likely cost around $200 million, but he's durable (193 2/3 innings or more in three straight campaigns) and offered immediate impact to the Orioles' rotation last season. - <em>Mcwilliam</em></p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p><strong>Christian Walker: </strong>Walker isn't receiving the same level of attention as some of the other free agents, but the former Arizona Diamondback ranks among the game's best all-around first basemen and shouldn't cost as much in years or dollars as someone like Pete Alonso. Walker ranks third in home runs, sixth in fWAR, and eighth in OPS at his position since the start of the 2022 season. Teams might have some trepidation about committing to a player who'll be 34 next season, but there's nothing glaring that points to an impending decline for Walker. It's easy to see why Alonso would be sought after on the open market; he's hit the second-most home runs in MLB behind Aaron Judge since debuting in 2019, and he's hit no fewer than 34 homers in five full seasons (he homered 16 times in 57 games during the COVID season). But the Alonso who homered 53 times with a career-best .941 OPS in 2019 is not the same hitter as the one now. He's watched his OPS drop in three straight seasons, landing at a career-worst .788 in 2024. Alonso has also seen his strikeout rate climb in each of the last three years. He remains an All-Star-caliber player entering his age-30 season and should remain productive during the first few years of his new contract, but he'll likely receive a long-term deal that projects to age poorly, and that's what scares me off. <em>- Wile</em></p><p><strong>Alex Bregman: </strong>There's no denying that Bregman is a good player. The issue is that he's likely seeking a massive deal worthy of an MVP candidate. He hasn't been that by just about every metric since 2019. Bregman posted his lowest on-base percentage (.315) with at least 400 plate appearances in 2024 and has only topped a 122 OPS+ once in the last five years. A declining offensive skill set accentuated by a potential move away from the hitter-friendly confines in Houston doesn't bode well for a successful long-term deal. - <em>Wrixon</em></p><p><strong>Anthony Santander: </strong>The switch-hitting slugger put together an ideal platform season for the Orioles, setting career highs with 44 home runs, 102 RBIs, and 91 runs scored. Santander doesn't offer much defensive value and is a strong candidate to be a primary DH, perhaps as early as next season. The 30-year-old is certainly an above-average offensive player, but it's probably more realistic to look at him as a 30-home run hitter than someone who can consistently go deep 40-plus times in a season. The loss of Soto would be deflating, especially when considering him potentially landing across town to the Mets or their rivals in Toronto or Boston. Hal Steinbrenner opened his wallet to sign Gerrit Cole and Aaron Judge, but it won't sit well if the Yankees are outbid on a generational player like Soto. New York wouldn't be able to make any splash that quells the loss of the superstar outfielder. And even if the club retains Soto, there's lots of work that needs to be done to build a roster that can win it all. - <em>Mcwilliam</em></p><p><strong>Red Sox:</strong> Boston's ownership group doubled down by stating it'd be aggressive this winter after completely whiffing on its "full throttle" proclamation last offseason. Now is the time to spend. The farm system is loaded, there's a cheap and talented core already in the majors, and there's plenty of payroll flexibility. Boston missed the playoffs for a third straight year in 2024, while attendance has suffered during this current stretch of underwhelming seasons. The fanbase needs to be re-energized, and that starts with making major moves. Even if the club doesn't sign Soto, ownership just being in the mix is a start. It'll be a major wasted opportunity if the front office doesn't head into Opening Day having made a number of big additions. <em>- Wile</em></p><p><strong>Blue Jays:</strong> Toronto's front office needs to try and prop back open a contention window that may already be closed. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette are under team control for one more season; signing one or both to an extension would go a long way in convincing fans that a full rebuild isn't around the corner. The Blue Jays need to add a pair of impact bats and another starting pitcher, and they need to remake their entire bullpen. Chicago has posted a winning record in each of the last two seasons but has missed the playoffs in four straight years and is seemingly stuck in mediocrity. Rather than flex their financial muscle in a mediocre division loaded with owners unwilling to spend, the Cubs seem content just coasting along. Chicago has done well with some recent signings but doesn't seem interested in spending big enough to become a legitimate contender. The team is reportedly trying to move on from Cody Bellinger and has yet to be linked with any of the top free agents. They did, however, hand Matt Boyd $29 million after he threw 11 solid starts (including postseason) last season. <em>- Wile</em></p><p><strong>Brewers: </strong>Manager Pat Murphy already made it clear that the likelihood of shortstop Willy Adames returning next season is remote. The Brewers have never been a team to enter the fray for high-profile free agents, so it shouldn't be much of a surprise that Adames will land elsewhere. That being said, replacing that level of production at shortstop will not be an easy task. Milwaukee surprised everyone with a 93-win season en route to another NL Central title in 2024. Barring an unforeseen roster upgrade, the Brewers might be hard-pressed to replicate that feat again this season. <em>- Goldberg</em></p><p><strong>Orioles: </strong>Baltimore already needed to complement its enviable amount of young talent with veterans to become a true contender, but now it needs to spend uncharacteristically big to get back to where it was in 2024. Will new ownership help that? The Orioles will be active, but there's a real chance they get outbid on both Corbin Burnes and Anthony Santander - possibly by their AL East rivals. It's not hard to envision a scenario where the birds get worse while their competition gets better. - <em>Wrixon</em></p><p><strong>Twins: </strong>Minnesota crashed harder than any team down the stretch last year, missing the postseason after a 9-18 September. The Twins should be looking for ways to improve after Joe Pohlad compared last season's collapse to "watching a train wreck," but the team is up for sale, making it unlikely any big expenditures are on the table. Minnesota isn't expected to cut payroll again after axing $26 million last year, but it also doesn't look like it'll make any significant moves, either. Kim is entering his age-29 season and will likely be in his prime during his next contract. He can impact the game with his stellar defense, speed, and above-average bat. The 2023 Gold Glover has slashed .250/.336/.385 with a combined 39 homers, 72 stolen bases, and 10.5 fWAR over the last three years for the Padres. Kim's versatility - having also played second and third base in the majors - further enhances his value. - <em>Ruminski</em></p><p><strong>Gleyber Torres: </strong>Torres regularly drew the ire of Yankees fans during his seven seasons in New York. He's not a perfect player, but there remains a lot to like. First, he's entering his age-28 season and should still have several years of prime production left. Second, Torres has been 13% better than the league average at the plate in his career, making him worthy of a four- or five-year contract at $15 million-$20 million per season. He can return value on that investment if he can be worth two or three wins above replacement per season. That seems like a worthwhile bet to make, especially with limited infield options in free agency. <em>- Goldberg</em></p><p><strong>Walker Buehler: </strong>The right-hander's endured a rough couple of years due to injuries, but he finally started looking like his former All-Star self late in the postseason. Buehler will likely seek a short-term deal in hopes of rebuilding his value to cash in with his next contract, but his ceiling could be huge - even for one season - for a club willing to take the gamble. He also won't cost a compensation pick. His performance in the World Series was vintage Buehler, and someone with his competitiveness is worth rolling the dice on. <em>- Wile </em></p><p><strong>Joc Pederson: </strong>Contenders looking for a boost against right-handed pitching shouldn't balk at calling Joc. The 32-year-old crushed 23 home runs with a .908 OPS (151 OPS+) last year with the Diamondbacks. He's strictly a platoon player and shouldn't be asked to play defense, but he's a difference-maker in the right situation who should cost less than the top-of-the-market bats. The lefty masher is also a two-time World Series champion who brings leadership and extensive playoff experience. -<em>Wrixon</em></p>

<p><em>With more than a quarter of the 2024-25 campaign in the books, theScore's NBA editors answer some of the biggest questions around the league.</em></p><h3>Who's been the most surprising player?</h3><p><strong>Norman Powell:</strong> Steve Ballmer might need to thank Powell with several luxurious gift baskets over the holidays for saving the Clippers' first season at the Intuit Dome from becoming a complete disaster. Not only is the 10th-year guard carrying L.A. offensively with a career-high 23.6 points per game, he's also doing it while shooting a blistering 49.6% from deep on 7.9<strong> </strong>attempts per game.<strong> </strong>For context, here's the complete list of qualified players to shoot at least 45% over an entire season while averaging at least seven threes per game: Stephen Curry. That's it. That's the list. Curry did it twice, but it's never been done by anyone else. That's the kind of historic pace Powell is on, which is exactly what the Clippers need with Kawhi Leonard seemingly nowhere close to returning. - <em>Jonathan Soveta</em></p><p><strong>Ty Jerome:</strong> The 27-year-old has surprisingly been instrumental to the Cavaliers' 18-3 start, averaging 11.8 points, 3.6 assists, two rebounds, and 1.4 steals in less than 20 minutes per game. Jerome has been on fire, shooting 50% on 3-pointers as well as over 60% on 2-point attempts. The NBA journeyman has made the most out of his opportunity after being limited to two games last campaign due to a lingering ankle injury. He's leading the Cavs in bench points, and a Sixth Man of the Year award is possible if Jerome can keep up his hot start. - <em>Donald Higney</em></p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p><strong>Nikola Vucevic: </strong>Vucevic - and the two years and $41 million left on his deal - was arguably the least valuable asset in the league heading into this season. And while his defense has been underwhelming, which is putting it kindly, he's recouped some trade value for the Bulls. The Montenegrin is averaging over 20 points for the first time as a Bull while shooting career highs from both the field (57.7%) and from deep (46.9%). Vucevic's 7.6 points per game on catch-and-shoot situations represents the second-highest mark amongst centers in the league. He's averaging 18.1 points per game, the lowest mark since his sophomore season, and shooting just 42.4% from the field, his worst rate since his rookie year. Murray's 3-point shooting has also dropped to career-worst 33.3%. The Nuggets have a better offensive rating per 100 possessions in the three games Murray missed (38.2) than the 14 contests he's played in (7.86). Struggles like this should concern Denver after inking Murray to a four-year, $208-million max extension in September, keeping him on the Nuggets' books until the 2028-29 campaign.<em> - Joseph Luca Casciaro</em></p><p><strong>Tyrese Haliburton: </strong>Indiana's talismanic guard could be in the midst of a seasonal correction, but Haliburton still has plenty of work cut out for him to erase the memory of his dire start to the year. The Pacers star made less than a quarter of his attempts from distance in nine of his first 15 games of the year and looked a shell of the 3-point-slinging dynamo he'd established himself as since arriving in Indiana midway through the 2021-22 campaign. A forlorn Haliburton told <a href="https://x.com/TonyREast/status/1860171085762977967">reporters</a> after a 12-point loss to the Bucks on Nov. 22 that he had no idea what was holding him back, but he might have in fact zeroed in on something; in the five games since that defeat, the 24-year-old has looked much more like himself, averaging 22 points and 8.8 assists while hoisting 11.2 threes per game and hitting 42.8%. <em>- Soveta</em></p><p><strong>Bam Adebayo: </strong>The extra basketball courtesy of the Olympics could be responsible for his offensive woes, but Adebayo is struggling to score. The Heat center is averaging his fewest points per game (15.7) since the 2019-20 season<strong> </strong>and is shooting his worst percentage from the field over eight campaigns in the Association (42.6%), which is also the worst mark for a center with at least 200 field-goal attempts this season. The three-time All-Star is still making over 60% of his shots from within 5 feet but is shooting under 40% from all other areas on the court. Even with the Heat remaining competitive in the Eastern Conference, Miami could stand to improve its middling offense with a more efficient Adebayo. - <em>Higney</em></p><h3>Which team's hot start is the most sustainable?</h3><p><strong>Golden State Warriors:</strong> The Warriors are 12-7<strong> </strong>with a top-10 offensive rating because they have some of the best depth in the league. Head coach Steve Kerr's system emphasizes ball movement and spacing. As a result, the Warriors lead the league in just about every passing category: They're first in passes made (333), first in secondary assists per game (4.9), and first in potential assists (55.4). The ball hums when Golden State is on offense, resulting in the league's third-highest assist ratio. Nine players on the Warriors are averaging at least seven points per game. This offensive style has allowed them to thrive when Curry has been absent: The Warriors boast a<strong> </strong>3-1 record without the former MVP. - <em>Tittley</em></p><p><strong>Orlando Magic:</strong><em> </em>The Magic have turned a corner and become legit contenders in the East. Franz Wagner is having a breakout season and has taken a leap toward stardom with career highs across the board. The Magic have also been electric at the Kia Center and are the last undefeated team at home this season. Orlando currently sits 15-7, winning 12 of its last 13 games, good enough for third place. The Magic have reached these marks while dealing with injuries: Paolo Banchero has been out since Oct. 30 with a torn right oblique, while Wendell Carter Jr. missed 13 games earlier this year. Once Jamahl Mosley's roster is fully healthy, the Magic should continue their success and reach an even higher peak.<em> - Casciaro</em></p><p><strong>Boston Celtics:</strong><em> </em>Joe Mazzulla's men are again in a tier of their own and showing no signs of slowing down thanks to an easy-to-remember recipe: more threebies, less freebies. The Celtics are attempting <em>and </em>hitting the most 3-pointers per game in NBA history, and those 3-pointers are responsible for a league-high 47.4% of their total points (conversely, they also rank last in percentage of points from twos, which further illustrates where their scoring focus is). And while hot shooting can come and go, their discipline is a variable almost entirely within their control. Brown's squad ranks 12th with a<strong> </strong>9-12 record and has won only three out of its last 10 contests. A big area of concern for the Kings has been their bench production, which ranks<strong> </strong>27th in points from reserves after placing 12th last season and ninth during their breakout 2022-23 campaign. Even with cornerstones De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis averaging career highs in points over the first quarter of the season, Brown needs to find ways to get other players involved offensively or his job may be in jeopardy. - <em>Higney</em></p><p><strong>Chauncey Billups: </strong>The Portland Trail Blazers are in Year 4 of the Billups project and have yet to see much success. The 48-year-old is 89-178 (33.3%) over that period and has only won more than 30 games in a season once. His teams haven't even made a play-in game, let alone a playoff appearance, during his tenure. The roster hasn't been exceptional since his arrival, and Portland has struggled with some injuries, but Billups has failed to adapt. His teams have been unimaginative on offense, and the results have been underwhelming at best: The Trail Blazers have ranked 27th or worse in offensive rating in three of Billups' four seasons. <em> - Tittley</em></p><p><strong>Nick Nurse: </strong>The 76ers have been a car crash on and off the court: key absences, locker room shoving matches, Tyrese Maxey <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3133387" href="https://thescore.com/news/3133387">ripping</a> Joel Embiid for being late to team meetings, those meetings getting <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3135058" href="https://thescore.com/news/3135058">leaked</a> to the media, and, most recently, Embiid saying he's confused about what the team is trying to execute on the court. The latter seemed to be a direct shot at Nurse. The Sixers sit 27th in the NBA with a 4-14 record and have their second-lowest offensive rating of the Embiid era (105.8). With so much money invested into Maxey, Embiid, and Paul George, it's likely Nurse is the first to go.<em> - Casciaro</em></p>

The Boston Fleet and Toronto Sceptres were unanimous picks, while the Montreal Victoire were left off of one ballot. All three teams made the playoffs in the PWHL's inaugural campaign.</p><p>But none of those teams actually won the Walter Cup. Three of five editors selected the defending champions, the Minnesota Frost, to make the playoffs after they narrowly made it into the postseason. The 2024 first overall pick came in at No. 9 on <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///news/3126610" href="https://thescore.com/news/3126610">theScore's top 25 PWHL player ranking</a> before even playing a regular-season game.</p><p>Fillier's top competition for the award includes Ottawa's Danielle Serdachny, who was chosen second overall and will be an immediate threat with her size, speed, and skill combination. Look for Hannah Bilka in Boston to draw more offense out of Hilary Knight and get some Rookie of the Year hype, too. The Victoire blue-liner is among the league's best power-play quarterbacks and logs huge five-on-five minutes. Two of Montreal's top defenders - Cayla Barnes and Dominika Laskova - are currently injured, which could mean Ambrose will play an even bigger role out of the gate.</p><p>Fast, the Sceptres' top defender, also got a nod. The 30-year-old embodies Toronto's physical style and has the offensive chops to be one of the scoring leaders among defenders. She isn't our top pick this season, though - Fleet netminder Aerin Frankel leads the way with two votes.</p><p>Frankel had a historic playoff run, highlighted by back-to-back semifinal wins in which she made over 50 saves. If the American continues that form, it'll be tough to deny her the award this season. </p><p>Montreal's Ann-Renee Desbiens and Ottawa's Emerance Maschmeyer also got some love here. Desbiens didn't have the dominant year many expected from her considering her reputation as the best goaltender in women's hockey, and she could be in store for a statement campaign. </table></div></figure><p>Natalie Spooner, last season's runaway MVP, is out as she recovers from knee surgery. Her Sceptres teammate Sarah Nurse is the favorite to step up and claim the award.</p><p>Nurse was dominant down the stretch with 17 points in her last 12 regular-season contests. A broken finger sustained just before the playoffs limited her effectiveness against Minnesota, but the 29-year-old is fully healthy and will be heavily leaned on in offensive situations with Spooner sidelined.</p><p>It wouldn't be a proper MVP discussion without Poulin. Still the best player in the women's game, the Victoire captain joined Spooner as the only two skaters to exceed the point-per-game mark last season. Montreal is expected to be among the league's best again - and Poulin remains a massive part of that. </table></div></figure><p>The Sceptres are a heavy favorite - four out of five editors picked Toronto to win the Walter Cup, and each projected the team to at least make the final.</p><p>Toronto improved what was already the league's best offense by signing the top free agent, Daryl Watts, this offseason. On paper, the Sceptres' offensive depth looks almost unstoppable - and that's before they get the reigning MVP back in the lineup.</p><p>The Victoire are the only other team to be picked to win the title. There's no denying their core - Poulin, Ambrose, Desbiens, and Laura Stacey - is capable of victory. A lack of trust in its depth cost Montreal in the spring and will again be the biggest area to watch if the Victoire are to make a real run at the Walter Cup.</p><p>The PWHL regular season starts Saturday when the Sceptres take on the Fleet and the Victoire face the Charge.</p>

The unstoppable quarterback has been crucial for Buffalo - the Bills remain a Super Bowl contender when many expected them to regress before the season. Allen has accounted for 23 touchdowns against just five interceptions.</p><h3><a id="PHI" name="PHI">3. Philadelphia Eagles (9-2)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 4</em></p><p><strong>Saquon Barkley</strong>. The 27-year-old running back entered the MVP conversation after a huge performance on Sunday Night Football. Barkley has the most yards from scrimmage through 12 weeks, making the Eagles' offense borderline unstoppable.</p><h3><a id="KC" name="KC">4. Kansas City Chiefs (10-1)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 3</em></p><p><strong>Patrick Mahomes</strong>. The Chiefs have won all eight one-score games they've played this season thanks to their superstar QB, who ranks fourth in EPA/dropback in the fourth quarter. Kansas City has five walk-off victories.</p><h3><a id="BAL" name="BAL">5. Minnesota Vikings (9-2)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 7</em></p><p><strong>O'Connell pairing with Flores</strong>. Minnesota's defense ranks first in EPA/play and success rate. Head coach Kevin O'Connell's decision to hire Brian Flores as defensive coordinator in 2023 has worked wonders for the franchise.</p><h3><a id="GB" name="GB">7. Green Bay Packers (8-3)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 8</em></p><p><strong>Matt LaFleur</strong>. After Sunday's victory over the 49ers, LaFleur improved his record to 64-30 as Packers head coach. He's become one of the league's best offensive play-callers.</p><h3><a id="PIT" name="PIT">8. Pittsburgh Steelers (8-3)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 5</em></p><p><strong>Mike Tomlin</strong>. The veteran coach deserves a lot of credit for putting Russell Wilson in the starting lineup; the decision helped change Pittsburgh's season. With one more win, Tomlin will secure his 18th non-losing NFL campaign.</p><h3><a id="SEA" name="SEA">9. Seattle Seahawks (6-5)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 15</em></p><p><strong>Mike Macdonald</strong>. Seattle is starting to reap the benefits of having Macdonald call the defense. The Seahawks shut down the Cardinals' high-powered offense Sunday and now sit first in the NFC West.</p><h3><a id="LAC" name="LAC">10. Denver Broncos (7-5)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 13</em></p><p><strong>Facing the NFC South</strong>. Four of Denver's seven triumphs came against NFC South teams, as Sean Payton - who knows a thing or two about that division - coached the Broncos to a sweep of the Saints, Bucs, Falcons, and Panthers in 2024.</p><h3><a id="HOU" name="HOU">12. Houston Texans (7-5)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 9</em></p><p><strong>A weak AFC South</strong>. The Texans have lost three of their last four games but still have a two-game lead atop the South. Houston is the division's only team with a winning record right now.</p><h3><a id="WAS" name="WAS">13. Washington Commanders (7-5)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 10</em></p><p><strong>Jayden Daniels</strong>. He's changed the fortunes of the Commanders franchise. The young quarterback has Washington as the 7-seed of the NFC playoff picture through 12 weeks, drastically exceeding expectations for his rookie season.</p><h3><a id="ARI" name="ARI">14. Arizona Cardinals (6-5)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 11</em></p><p><strong>Kyler Murray</strong>. The 27-year-old is fourth among all signal-callers in QB rating. Despite a poor performance against the Seahawks, Murray has played well and is giving Arizona a chance to win its division.</p><h3><a id="MIA" name="MIA">15. The two rookies have helped the Rams' defense produce the league's highest pressure rate (41.2%) this season.</p><h3><a id="ATL" name="ATL">17. Atlanta Falcons (6-5)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 17</em></p><p><strong>Being first in their division</strong>. Atlanta is 4-1 in divisional games this season and is the front-runner to win the NFC South. Despite back-to-back losses, the Falcons have plenty of time to get their season back on track.</p><h3><a id="TB" name="TB">18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-6)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 18</em></p><p><strong>Baker Mayfield</strong>. The 29-year-old is third among quarterbacks in touchdown passes and completion percentage after 12 weeks. Due to Mayfield's performance, Tampa Bay's offense ranks fifth in EPA/play.</p><h3><a id="CIN" name="CIN">19. Cincinnati Bengals (4-7)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 19</em></p><p><strong>The Burrow-Chase duo</strong>. Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase have been unstoppable. The star QB leads the NFL with 27 touchdown passes this season, while the receiver tops his position with 1,056 receiving yards and 12 TD receptions.</p><h3><a id="SF" name="SF">20. Indy is two games below .500, but its schedule includes a matchup against Denver - the AFC's current No. 7 seed - so making the playoffs remains possible.</p><h3><a id="CHI" name="CHI">22. Chicago Bears (4-7)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 23</em></p><p><strong>Caleb Williams</strong>. The first overall pick shined against the Vikings on Sunday, totaling 373 yards and two touchdowns against a strong defense. Chicago's offense is in good hands.</p><h3><a id="DAL" name="DAL">23. Dallas Cowboys (4-7)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 25</em></p><p><strong>CeeDee Lamb</strong>. Even with inconsistent quarterback play, Lamb has produced solid numbers. The 25-year-old is under contract long term and will be the focal point of Dallas' offense for years to come.</p><h3><a id="NE" name="NE">24. New England Patriots (3-9)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 22</em></p><p><strong>Drake Maye's development</strong>. The rookie quarterback has shown positive signs in his first NFL games despite a subpar supporting cast. Maye's nine big-time throws are tied for the 12th-most in the league since his Week 6 debut, according to PFF.</p><h3><a id="NYJ" name="NYJ">25. Carolina Panthers (3-8)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 26</em></p><p><strong>Owning their first-round pick</strong>. Chicago used Carolina's first-round selection on Caleb Williams in April, but the Panthers now have the chance to use their top pick in 2025. This roster desperately needs young talent.</p><h3><a id="NO" name="NO">27. New Orleans Saints (4-7)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 27</em></p><p><strong>A new coaching staff in 2025</strong>. The Saints have a small chance of making the playoffs, but fans can get excited about a fresh start next year. New Orleans' next coaching hire could provide hope for long-term success.</p><h3><a id="CLE" name="CLE">28. Cleveland Browns (3-8)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 30</em></p><p><strong>Division wins</strong>. It's extra special to beat an archrival, and two of Cleveland's three wins this year came against Baltimore and Pittsburgh. The Browns most recently came back versus the Steelers with fan favorite Nick Chubb scoring the game-winning touchdown in snowy conditions.</p><h3><a id="TEN" name="TEN">29. Tennessee Titans (3-8)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 31</em></p><p><strong>AFC South. </strong>The Titans have had a bad 2024 campaign despite aggressive offseason moves, but at least the rest of the division isn't pulling away. The Jaguars, Colts, and even the Texans have disappointed to a certain degree.</p><h3><a id="JAX" name="JAX">30. Las Vegas Raiders (2-9)</a></h3><p><em>Previous rank: 32</em></p><p><strong>Brock Bowers</strong>. It's been a disappointing campaign for the Raiders, but they might already have a top-three tight end in Bowers. The first-round rookie leads all TEs with 74 catches and 744 yards while also scoring three TDs.</p>
