</h3><p>The defending champs have picked up right where they left off after winning the franchise's first title last year - and that's despite losing All-Defensive wing Betnijah Laney-Hamilton for the season back in March. Her de facto replacement, Natasha Cloud, has filled in perfectly, dropping 15.3 points per game and a team-high 8.3 dimes to help New York start the year 4-0.</p><h3>2. <a id="MIN" name="MIN">Minnesota Lynx (5-0)</a>
</h3><p>Reigning Defensive Player of the Year Napheesa Collier is the early favorite to win MVP, and for good reason. The four-time All-Star is leading the league in scoring at 26.8 PPG, 6.4 points above her 2024 season average. She's the focal point for a juggernaut Lynx side looking to top last season's franchise-record 30-win haul.</p><h3>3. <a id="SEA" name="SEA">Seattle Storm (3-2)</a>
</h3><p>Nneka Ogwumike and Skylar Diggins are proving age is just a number. Ogwumike is an offensive force with her inside-out play, while Diggins remains among the WNBA's top playmakers. The Storm's defense is still elite with Gabby Williams' versatility and Ezi Magbegor's rim protection. Seattle could become even tougher to score against if Dominique Malonga joins the rotation.</p><h3>4. <a id="PHX" name="PHX">Phoenix Mercury (4-1)</a>
</h3><p>Phoenix has to be ecstatic with its record, considering that Kahleah Copper has yet to suit up this season. New additions Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas have carried the offensive load in the 2021 Finals MVP's absence. The Mercury's ability to force turnovers has been another significant factor in their early start.</p><h3>5. <a id="IND" name="IND">Indiana Fever (2-2)</a>

During its first four games, Indiana's offensive rating cratered by 25.3 points when she was off the floor. However, unlike last year's roster, this squad boasts multiple experienced vets who can take over in the interim, including DeWanna Bonner, though she hasn't looked comfortable yet in Indiana.</p><h3>6. <a id="ATL" name="ATL">Atlanta Dream (4-2)</a>
</h3><p>Adding Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones to their frontcourt this offseason has transformed the Dream. Atlanta is averaging a league-best 41 rebounds per game this year - up from 36.1 last season - with Griner and Jones combining for 19.4 of those. However, its only wins so far have come against the Wings and Sun, who were both 0-4 heading into their matchup Tuesday.</p><h3>7. <a id="GSV" name="GSV">Golden State Valkyries (2-2)</a>
</h3><p>The Valkyries have stormed out of the gates with wins over the Mystics and Sparks despite some worrying displays from the perimeter; Natalie Nakase's team is shooting a league-worst 27.3% from deep. Expect the Valkyries to regress after Tuesday's loss in New York, as another clash with the Liberty and a visit from the behemoth Lynx await.</p><h3>8. <a id="LV" name="LV">Las Vegas Aces (2-2)</a>
</h3><p>Las Vegas is still trying to work in all of its new faces. Jewell Loyd's shooting struggles from last season have carried over into the early part of the 2025 campaign. Aces head coach Becky Hammon is tinkering with her second unit after losing key reserves Tiffany Hayes and Alysha Clark over the offseason.</p><h3>9. <a id="WSH" name="WSH">Washington Mystics (2-3)</a>
</h3><p>Washington's record would be much different if it held onto fourth-quarter leads in two of its three losses. Brittney Sykes is averaging a career-high 22.3 points, Kiki Iriafen has been a double-double machine, and Sonia Citron is shooting a sizzling 47.6% from deep. Iriafen and Citron look poised to challenge Paige Bueckers for Rookie of the Year honors.</p><h3>10. <a id="LA" name="LA">Los Angeles Sparks (2-3)</a>

The three-time All-Star is among the league leaders in scoring, 3-point field goals, assists, and steals. Her efficiency from beyond the arc has made her a natural fit in the 3-point-heavy system of new Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts.</p><h3>11. <a id="DAL" name="DAL">Dallas Wings (1-4)</a>
</h3><p>There's no denying the talent of Paige Bueckers, but the UConn product leading the Wings in every statistical category after just one win in their first five outings indicates that it may take time for Dallas to find balance around the No. 1 pick. That will come eventually, but expect more growing pains until then.</p><h3>12. <a id="CHI" name="CHI">Chicago Sky (0-4)</a>
</h3><p>The Sky's schedule hasn't done them any favors, but they haven't helped their own cause either. Chicago lost its opening two contests to the Fever and Liberty by a combined 60 points, the worst point differential through two games in WNBA history. With substantial roster turnover and a first-time head coach in Tyler Marsh, the Sky have to hope unfamiliarity is a primary cause of their struggles.</p><h3>13. <a id="CON" name="CON">Connecticut Sun (0-5)</a>
</h3><p>The Sun's gloomy start is hardly a shock following a full-scale roster overhaul. A dearth of star talent has been a factor, but so, too, has the team's paltry offense; they're shooting 39% from the field and just 28% from deep on a league-low 5.6 made 3-pointers per game. It's going to be a long season in Connecticut.</p>

</script></figure><p>Misa is the eighth player in OHL history to be granted exceptional status, and he put up phenomenal numbers throughout his junior career with the Saginaw Spirit. He missed a chunk of games to injury as a 15-year-old rookie in 2022-23, but he still led the club with 56 points. He was more productive the following season, producing 75 points in 65 appearances, and then exploded in his draft year with an OHL-leading 134 points, 10 clear of second place.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>With that total, he tied John Tavares - another exceptional status player - for the most points by an under-18 player in the OHL since 2000. Misa has spent time at wing and center with the Spirit, but flourished down the middle this past season. It's often difficult for young centers to seamlessly jump to the NHL, but Misa possesses the skating ability and offensive instincts to develop into a star at the highest level.</p><p>He also comes with a winning pedigree as a 2024 Memorial Cup champion.</p><h3>Best fits</h3><figure class="article-segment--embed"><iframe title="Misa Fits" aria-label="Table" id="datawrapper-chart-9H4BS" src="https://datawrapper.dwcdn.net/9H4BS/5/" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" style="width: 0; min-width: 100% !important; border: none;" height="109" data-external="1"></iframe><script type="text/javascript">!function(){"use strict";window.addEventListener("message",(function(a){if(void 0!==a.data["datawrapper-height"]){var e=document.querySelectorAll("iframe");for(var t in a.data["datawrapper-height"])for(var r,i=0;r=e[i];i++)if(r.contentWindow===a.source){var d=a.data["datawrapper-height"][t]+"px";r.style.height=d}}}))}();
</script></figure><p>Misa would be a terrific fit for anyone at the top of the draft: The Islanders, Sharks, and Blackhawks could all benefit from another offensive weapon. That said, there's a slim chance he falls past No. 2.</p><p>The Islanders don't have a strong prospect pipeline, and Misa would immediately shoot to the top ahead of Calum Ritchie and Cole Eiserman. New York desperately needs to inject offensive creativity into its lineup beyond Mathew Barzal, making Misa an enticing choice.</p><p>The Sharks hit a home run with Macklin Celebrini last year, but San Jose is still in the depths of its rebuild and needs to hone in on the best player available. If Misa's there at No. 2, the Sharks should take him and run with hopes of establishing a promising 1-2 punch down the middle for years to come.</p><p>The Blackhawks need support for Connor Bedard and, after they used four first-rounders on defensemen over the past three years, Misa would theoretically be a perfect complementary piece to build around.</p><h3>What they're saying</h3><p>"Misa is a beautiful skater with some quiet explosiveness and a real knack for weaving, cutting, turning and spinning in control of the puck to either shake defenders under pressure in the offensive or defensive zone or slip past them in transition with his speed and agility," wrote <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6285044/2025/05/05/nhl-draft-2025-ranking-schaefer-misa-lottery/">The Athletic's Scott Wheeler</a>. "He's also a very smart player who makes his linemates better with his playmaking, vision and ability to execute while tightly covered."</p><p><a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6174550/2025/03/11/nhl-draft-2025-ranking-schaefer-misa-pronman/">Corey Pronman of The Athletic</a> offered similar sentiments. </p><p>"He's a high-end skater with clear NHL edge work and top speed. He's highly skilled and creative. He makes a lot of skilled plays at rapid speeds and projects to get a lot of controlled entries at the top level," he wrote.</p><p>"He projects as a No. 1 center with a chance to be a star."</p>

How title races, UCL spots, and more unfolded in Europe's top leagues

</script></figure><p>It was an abbreviated campaign for Schaefer after he missed the first nine games of the OHL season with mononucleosis before breaking his clavicle in his second game at the world juniors in December.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The missed time shouldn't spook NHL teams, as Schaefer made a strong impression when healthy. Despite playing in only 17 games for the Erie Otters, he surpassed his previous career high of 17 points in 56 outings in 2023-24.</p><p>Schaefer was fantastic in his world juniors debut, recording a goal and an assist in Canada's 4-0 victory against Finland. He was the second-youngest player on the roster and is only three months older than Gavin McKenna, who isn't draft eligible until 2026. Schaefer doesn't turn 18 until September</p><p>That wasn't Schaefer's first foray on the international stage, as he captured gold at the World U18 Championships and Hlinka Gretzky Cup in 2024. Schaefer chipped in with five points in seven games at the former event and six points in five outings while serving as Canada's captain in the latter. </p><p>Schaefer has also shown unbelievable resilience. He lost his mother, Jennifer, to breast cancer in February 2024, just three months after the death of his billet mother, Emily Matson. While recovering from his clavicle injury, Schaefer said his mother's death changed his mindset on life. </p><p>"I'm just happy to be here every day, and there are worse things that could happen," he told <a href="https://www.nhl.com/news/matthew-schaefer-going-to-come-back-stronger-than-ever-after-world-juniors-injury">NHL.com</a> in February. It'll undoubtedly be tempting to take Long Island native <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///ncaah/players/15887" href="https://thescore.com/ncaah/players/15887">James Hagens</a>, but the opportunity to take Schaefer may be too good to pass up. New York's prospect pool is thinner on the back end than it is up front, and current key blue-liners <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3847" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3847">Adam Pelech</a>, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3313" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3313">Ryan Pulock</a>, and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/2927" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/2927">Scott Mayfield</a> are all over 30.</p><p>The Sharks, meanwhile, are likely hoping that Schaefer falls into their clutches at No. 2. San Jose's cupboards are loaded with top forward prospects, and it has its goalie in <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/9205" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/9205">Yaroslav Askarov</a>. Schaefer would immediately solidify the team's future blue line alongside 2024 11th overall pick <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/15143" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/15143">Sam Dickinson</a>.</p><h3>What they're saying</h3><p>"He's a powerful, effortless skater who will be able to close gaps and transition up ice at a clear NHL level," <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6331434/2025/05/05/2025-nhl-draft-prospects-lottery-ranking/">The Athletic's Corey Pronman</a> wrote in May. "He uses his feet to attack often, leading and supporting rushes very well. Schaefer is a very intelligent defenseman with legit offensive skills. ... He projects as a star No. 1 defenseman in the NHL."</p><p>Pronman also compared him to Ottawa Senators blue-liner <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/9188" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/9188">Jake Sanderson</a>.</p><p>"Schaefer is the best skater available," <a href="https://www.nhl.com/news/mock-2025-nhl-draft-opinions-vary-following-matthew-schaefer-michael-misa">NHL.com's Adam Kimelman</a> said. "His offensive game is dynamic, and he's strong enough to handle any situation in the defensive zone."</p>

He starred for the Americans at the Under-18s in 2024, setting the tournament record with 22 points in just seven contests as the United States won silver.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>That monster effort broke the American scoring mark of 20 points, set by <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/8594" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/8594">Jack Hughes</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/13841" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/13841">Will Smith</a> in 2019 and 2023, respectively, as well as the overall tournament record of 21 points, which <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/3322" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/3322">Nikita Kucherov</a> set in 2011.</p><p>Hagens centered arguably the best line in the NCAA this season at Boston College. He was flanked by <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/13827" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/13827">Ryan Leonard</a> and <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/13821" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/13821">Gabe Perreault</a>, both of whom made their NHL debuts at season's end. He isn't the top-ranked player, but the chance to snag a hometown kid to build around might be too enticing to pass up. If Hagens hits his stride quickly, he could be the missing piece on the top line alongside star playmaker <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/4720" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/4720">Mathew Barzal</a> or serve as a replacement for <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/2524" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/2524">Brock Nelson</a> as a second-line center.</p><p>The Chicago Blackhawks could also see Hagens as an intriguing running mate for <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nhl/players/13829" href="https://thescore.com/nhl/players/13829">Connor Bedard</a>, given his cerebral game. But Chicago needs more size up front, and Hagens is under six feet. </p><p>The Predators desperately need center depth, and Hagens falling to No. 5 would be a boon for general manager Barry Trotz. The Tigers boast a rotation with four legitimate starters, including ace Tarik Skubal, and a bullpen that owns the second-lowest ERA in the majors. On paper, the lineup doesn't look incredibly imposing, but collectively it's been a force. The team ranks second in runs, fifth in OPS, and sixth in<strong> </strong>home runs.<strong> </strong>Manager A.J. Hinch is a proven winner and does an incredible job of getting the most out of his players. This isn't a case of Detroit beating up on a weak division, either, as the team is 11-11 against teams .500 or better. <em>- Wile</em></p><p><strong>Yankees:</strong> New York's plus-61 run differential is a better indicator of the group's talent than its pedestrian 21-16 record, and simply having Aaron Judge, the best hitter on planet Earth, elevates this lineup above the rest in the AL. He's a huge reason this group leads the AL in home runs (62) and ranks second in runs scored (206) despite several injuries and slow starts. Late-game execution has been the real issue, as Devin Williams has already sunk the team on several occasions with meltdowns in big spots. Some ninth-inning stability is all this team really needs to go on a run. - <em>Wrixon</em></p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p><strong>Mariners:</strong> The AL West leaders are 17-6 since April 11. Seattle's bats have come alive during the torrid stretch, averaging over six runs per contest while collectively slashing .271/.359/.457 with 37 homers. Pete Alonso is a legitimate MVP candidate, and Juan Soto is rounding into form at the plate. The Mets and Dodgers could be on another collision course to meet in the NLCS for a second consecutive season. - <em>Goldberg</em></p><p><strong>Cubs: </strong>The rotation is banged up, and the loss of Justin Steele is a major concern, but no team has been tested this season like Chicago, which has continued to roll. The Cubs lead the NL Central and own one of the majors' best run differentials despite playing the most difficult schedule of any team. The offense is what really sets this team apart; the Cubs are first in the majors in runs, hits, and stolen bases, while sitting third in OPS and home runs.<strong> </strong>Kyle Tucker is a legitimate MVP candidate, while Pete Crow-Armstrong, Seiya Suzuki, and Michael Busch are among the team's qualified hitters with an OPS over .800. Much of that can be attributed to a pitching staff that's been atrocious, even after accounting for injuries to Grayson Rodriguez and Zach Eflin. But it's not just the arms at fault. Baltimore ranks 26th in total offense (2.2 fWAR)<strong> </strong>and 17th in wRC+ (96). Cedric Mullins is its only qualified hitter with an OPS above .800. The Orioles have now lost seven straight and sit 7 1/2 games out of first - a deficit that already feels much, much bigger.<em> - Sharkey-Gotlieb</em></p><p><strong>Rangers: </strong>Texas was a popular pick to win the AL West heading into the season but has disappointed thus far. While many expected its lineup would need to overcome its thin pitching, it's actually been the opposite. The Rangers look lost at the plate. They've<strong> </strong>scored fewer runs than the Chicago<strong> </strong>White Sox.<strong> </strong>Big names like Adolis García, Marcus Semien, and Joc Pederson have been dreadful, Jake Burger got demoted to the minor leagues, and the team already fired its offensive coordinator. That magical 2023 World Series run is starting to look like an outlier season. - <em>Wrixon</em></p><p><strong>Blue Jays: </strong>Toronto entered the season as a potential wild-card team if things broke right, so it's not exactly shocking to see the club struggling with many of the same issues - lack of power, starting depth, and bullpen implosions - that resulted in a last-place finish in the division in 2024. The Blue Jays are pretty fortunate to be only four games out of the AL East lead since their pythagorean winning percentage is that of a club with a 14-22 record due to a minus-36 run differential. He's already been worth 2.5 fWAR with five homers and 13 stolen bases. It's unlikely that anyone will match Judge's offensive counting stats, but Witt could eclipse him in all-around value if he continues playing at his current pace. - <em>Wrixon</em></p><p><strong>Alex Bregman: </strong>The fit at Fenway Park was not overstated. Bregman's been even better than expected in his first season in Boston. The 31-year-old is second in MLB in doubles, third in the AL with a .988 OPS through 38 games, and has hit a team-leading nine home runs to go with 30 RBIs, all while solidifying third base. But Bregman's production isn't just inflated by playing half his games in a hitter's park, as he owns a 1.009 OPS on the road this season. With his solid defensive ability, elite offensive skills, and durable track record, expect Bregman to be in the hunt for his first MVP all season. <em>- Wile</em></p><p><strong>Cal Raleigh: </strong>Big Dumper is the best catcher in baseball right now. He sits among the AL leaders in fWAR while combining incredible power at the plate withs strong defensive play. Raleigh is on pace for the first 40-homer season of his career as the Mariners look poised to get back to the postseason after missing out the past two years. It's hard to imagine this run is sustainable over a full campaign, but stranger things have happened, and his Baseball Savant page is covered in red. - <em>Ruminski</em></p><p><strong>Mariners' 124 wRC+: </strong>If you say that you predicted the Mariners would be own the league's second-best wRC+ through six weeks of play, you're a liar. Nobody predicted this. But it's happened, and it shows just how good of a team these Mariners are. Seattle's suddenly potent offense seems to be well-rounded; the team ranks second in OBP (.340), fourth in homers (51), and seventh in runs scored (185). The plus-31 run differential, which ranks third in the AL, would suggest this is all sustainable, even if Jorge Polanco doesn't finish the season with a SLG above .700. The Mariners have mashed their way to the top of the AL West, and they don't seem ready to let it go. <em>- Sharkey-Gotlieb</em></p><p><strong>Matthew Liberatore's WAR: </strong>Liberatore has been one of the more pleasant surprises through the start of the season. It's arguably the best in Europe. Saliba has been the pillar holding it together, especially since Gabriel Magalhaes' season-ending injury. The Frenchman's logged over 4,000 total minutes, more than any outfield player on the team.</p><h3>7. <a id="Napoli" name="Napoli">Napoli</a> 🇮🇹</h3><p><em>Previous: 11 </em>📈</p><p><strong>Scott McTominay</strong>: Miscast as a holding midfielder at Manchester United, the Scottish international is thriving in Italy. With the freedom to drive forward, he's scoring freely and developing cult-hero status in Naples. That will only grow if he helps Napoli claim the Scudetto.</p><h3>8. <a id="Madrid" name="Madrid">Real Madrid</a> 🇪🇸</h3><p><em>Previous: 4 </em>📉</p><p><strong>Federico Valverde</strong>: Probably the best Swiss Army knife in the game, the do-everything Uruguayan has spent time all over the pitch for Real Madrid. He thrives wherever he lines up. Madrid have been riddled by injuries amid an uneven season, but Valverde's been a consummate performer throughout.</p><h3>9. <a id="Newcastle" name="Newcastle">Newcastle United</a> 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿</h3><p><em>Previous: 9 </em>⚖️</p><p><strong>Alexander Isak</strong>: The spindly Swede has 27 goals in all competitions this season for Newcastle. Nobody else on the team has even hit double figures. Where would they be without him? Doku can be frustrating, but he has the ability to inject dynamism into the team. For a side that's often looked lethargic - though City are finishing strong down the stretch - that's enough for him to get the nod.</p><h3>12. <a id="Leverkusen" name="Leverkusen">Bayer Leverkusen</a> 🇩🇪</h3><p><em>Previous: 12 </em>⚖️</p><p><strong>Florian Wirtz</strong>: Unsurprisingly, Bayer Leverkusen are worse in just about every statistical attacking category without Wirtz on the pitch. They create fewer chances, take fewer shots, and score fewer goals per game without their young star. If he does leave this summer, it will be a <em>massive</em> hole to fill.</p><h3>13. <a id="BVB" name="BVB">Borussia Dortmund</a> 🇩🇪</h3><p><em>Previous: N/A </em>📈</p><p><strong>Serhou Guirassy</strong>: The top scorer in this season's Champions League, Guirassy is leading Borussia Dortmund's late surge and could save their campaign almost single-handedly. He has seven goals in his last four games and 32 in all competitions. Nobody else has more than 12 for BVB.</p><h3>14. <a id="Sporting" name="Sporting">Sporting CP</a> 🇵🇹</h3><p><em>Previous: 17 </em>📈</p><p><strong>Viktor Gyokeres</strong>: A player from outside the top five leagues hasn't won the European Golden Shoe since 2002, when Mario Jardel claimed the award as a member of Sporting CP. De Roon provides a much-needed steady presence in the middle of the chaos for Gian Piero Gasperini's men.</p><h3>17. <a id="Atletico" name="Atletico">Atletico Madrid</a> 🇪🇸</h3><p><em>Previous: 16 </em>📉</p><p><strong>Julian Alvarez</strong>: Atletico Madrid have little to play for in the final weeks, but many of their best moments this year involved Alvarez, who's the embodiment of what Diego Simeone wants in a player. He's stepped up in big moments this season, scoring multiple goals against both Real Madrid and Barca.</p><h3>18. <a id="Palace" name="Palace">Crystal Palace</a> 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿</h3><p><em>Previous: 14 </em>📉</p><p><strong>Daniel Munoz</strong>: Eberechi Eze brings the flair and Jean-Philippe Mateta the goals, but Munoz is the relentless engine that keeps Oliver Glasner's side running. Philadelphia also filled the voids left by Darius Slay and C.J. Gardner-Johnson in the draft, adding Andrew Mukuba and Mac McWilliams, respectively.</p><h3><a id="KC" name="KC">2. Kansas City Chiefs</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 2</em></p><p>The Chiefs had a need at offensive line after it fell apart in the Super Bowl. Adding first-round pick Josh Simmons fixes that problem, and selecting wide receiver Jalen Royals later on gives Patrick Mahomes another target.</p><h3><a id="BUF" name="BUF">3. Buffalo Bills</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 3</em></p><p>It's clear Sean McDermott was trying to replenish a defense that tailed off last year early in the draft. The Bills will need Maxwell Hairston to pan out better than Kaiir Elam, the last first-round cornerback they took.</p><h3><a id="BAL" name="BAL">4. Baltimore Ravens</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 5</em></p><p>Malaki Starks is now the third defensive back the Ravens have selected in the last four first rounds as they slowly but surely rebuild their secondary. Baltimore has all the ingredients of a Super Bowl contender.</p><h3><a id="DET" name="DET">5. Their draft class is underwhelming on paper, headlined by defensive tackle Tyleik Williams. However, Dan Campbell deserves the benefit of the doubt to continue the team's success.</p><h3><a id="WAS" name="WAS">6. Washington Commanders</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 6</em></p><p>General manager Adam Peters made it a priority this offseason to shore up Jayden Daniels' protection. He traded for Laremy Tunsil and drafted Josh Conerly Jr. with a first-round pick. If Daniels can replicate his 2024 success, the Commanders are poised to compete with the Eagles for a division crown.</p><h3><a id="MIN" name="MIN">7. Minnesota Vikings</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 7</em></p><p>The Vikings made the most of the few draft picks they had. First-round offensive lineman Donovan Jackson polishes off a revamped interior offensive line, while Tai Felton is another receiver in the mix. Acquiring Sam Howell from the Seahawks also provides some much-needed insurance to the quarterback room.</p><h3><a id="LAR" name="LAR">8. Los Angeles Rams</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 8</em></p><p>The Rams are set to make another run at an NFC title. Adding Davante Adams will provide juice to an offense that lacked playmakers outside of Puka Nacua last season, and second-round tight end Terrance Ferguson could help as well.</p><h3><a id="GB" name="GB">9. Green Bay Packers</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 9</em></p><p>The Packers drafted weapons for Jordan Love, selecting Matthew Golden and Savion Williams in the first and third rounds, respectively. Outside of a question mark at cornerback, the Packers' roster is among the NFL's best.</p><h3><a id="TB" name="TB">10. Cornerbacks Benjamin Morrison and Jacob Parrish were excellent value on Day 2. It's clear Tampa Bay improved its roster after the draft.</p><h3><a id="LAC" name="LAC">11. Los Angeles Chargers</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 11</em></p><p>Jim Harbaugh is going to get his wish for a smashmouth football team. First, he signed Najee Harris as a free agent. Then, he drafted North Carolina tailback Omarion Hampton in the first round. Fear not for Justin Herbert, who also got a new weapon in Tre Harris on Day 2.</p><h3><a id="DEN" name="DEN">12. Denver Broncos</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 13</em></p><p>If opposing offenses thought they had it tough going against Pat Surtain, they're not ready for what could be coming with cornerback Jahdae Barron alongside him. Sean Payton also finally got his dynamic running back in RJ Harvey. The Broncos followed some nice moves in free agency with some more in the draft.</p><h3><a id="HOU" name="HOU">13. Houston Texans</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 15</em></p><p>C.J. Stroud has to be thrilled with Houston drafting Iowa State receivers Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. The Texans are a threat to make a run in the AFC if their offensive line can protect the young quarterback.</p><h3><a id="CHI" name="CHI">14. Chicago Bears</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 14</em></p><p>Ben Johnson got his version of Sam LaPorta in Colston Loveland in the first round. The big-play tight end should bring a new element to Chicago's offense, while second-round wideout Luther Burden is a project the Bears just couldn't afford to pass up.</p><h3><a id="CIN" name="CIN">15. They used their top pick on edge rusher Shemar Stewart, adding a raw player to a win-now roster.</p><h3><a id="SF" name="SF">16. San Francisco 49ers</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 20</em></p><p>Defense, defense, defense. The 49ers' defense finished 29th in points allowed last season. So, naturally, they spent their first five picks on that side of the ball, including their first on edge rusher Mykel Williams.</p><h3><a id="SEA" name="SEA">17. Seattle Seahawks</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 17</em></p><p>The Seahawks drafted three offensive linemen, including first-rounder Grey Zabel, to help fortify a unit that struggled last season. Nick Emmanwori and Elijah Arroyo provide dynamic athletes on offense and defense, respectively. But will those picks be enough to change Seattle's fortune?</p><h3><a id="DAL" name="DAL">18. Dallas Cowboys</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 18</em></p><p>Solidifying the offensive line was among Dallas' top priorities entering draft weekend. Whether Tyler Booker becomes the latest gem of the Cowboys' O-line is to be seen. Micah Parsons got a running mate in Donovan Ezeiruaku, but CeeDee Lamb is still missing his tag-team partner.</p><h3><a id="ARI" name="ARI">19. Arizona Cardinals</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 16</em></p><p>The Cardinals used the draft to continue revamping a middle-of-the-road defense. Walter Nolen and Will Johnson could be the faces of Arizona's defense for years to come, but taking only one offensive lineman was puzzling.</p><h3><a id="LV" name="LV">20. GM John Spytek provided Geno Smith with a dynamic runner and a promising pair of wideouts to bolster the Raiders' supporting cast.</p><h3><a id="JAX" name="JAX">21. Jacksonville Jaguars</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 25</em></p><p>Travis Hunter, welcome to Jacksonville. The Jaguars made the splash of the draft by trading up for the two-way star and are ready to move forward with a new head coach and GM. Hunter and Brian Thomas Jr. will be a nightmare for opposing defenses.</p><h3><a id="ATL" name="ATL">22. Atlanta Falcons</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 21</em></p><p>Atlanta double-dipped at edge rusher after perennially struggling to find a solution to its pass-rushing woes. Time will tell if the Falcons overpaid or landed a bargain to acquire James Pearce Jr. to pair with Jalon Walker.</p><h3><a id="CAR" name="CAR">23. Carolina Panthers</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 27</em></p><p>The Panthers needed to address their porous defense but delayed that opportunity in the first round for wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, a potential game-changer for the rapidly improving Bryce Young. They came back to defense on Day 2, stamping a successful draft.</p><h3><a id="NE" name="NE">24. New England Patriots</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 26</em></p><p>The Patriots went into the draft intending to make Drake Maye's life easier, and boy, did they ever. Not only did they find his potential long-term blind-side protector in Will Campbell, but they also provided him with big-play running back TreVeyon Henderson and speedy receiver Kyle Williams.</p><h3><a id="PIT" name="PIT">25. Miami Dolphins</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 22</em></p><p>Jalen Ramsey wants out, Tyreek Hill could detonate at any moment, and Tua Tagovailoa is always a hit away from an extended absence. The Dolphins focused on the trenches in the draft, and that was probably wise, but this team is still in trouble.</p><h3><a id="NYG" name="NYG">27. New York Giants</a></h3><p><em>Previous: 31</em></p><p>The Giants figure to have a talented supporting cast ready to compete after drafting pass-rusher Abdul Carter and running back Cam Skattebo. The team's success, or lack thereof, will boil down to the quarterback position.</p><h3><a id="IND" name="IND">28. The former Texas prodigy will battle Zach Wilson for the backup job, but the real takeaway here is that Ewers should've gone to the transfer portal instead of the draft.</p><p>A return to Texas always seemed improbable with the Longhorns ready to turn over the program to Arch Manning, but Ewers would've landed a gigantic NIL deal through the portal. As rough as the 2025 draft was for many of the big-name quarterbacks, nobody was forced to wait longer than Ewers. <em>- Alex Chippin</em></p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><h3>Raiders double-dip at QB</h3><p>The Raiders had an unconventional end to the sixth round, using the 213th and 215th picks on quarterbacks. First up was Montana State's Tommy Mellott, who is a serious freak athlete. Don't believe me? Check out his 4.39 40-yard dash time and other <a href="https://x.com/MathBomb/status/1916241861057954258">measurables</a>. Philadelphia took Syracuse passer Kyle McCord on Saturday, bringing an interesting prospect to a depth chart that also features Tanner McKee and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. McCord's gunslinger style could make him an interesting backup in the NFL. <em>- Caio Miari</em></p><h3>SEC makes history</h3><p>Before the seventh round even began, a total of 65 players from the SEC were drafted, already tying the record for the most picks from a conference in the same NFL draft. This will mark the 19th straight year in which the SEC has had more players selected than any other league.<em> - Caio Miari</em></p><h3>Eagles loading up on defense</h3><p>The Eagles finished the 2024 season with the league's No. 1 defense in yards and second-ranked scoring unit. They clearly weren't satisfied by finishing behind the Chargers in points allowed, as they've selected five consecutive defenders to start their class. Philly also added another data point to one of its trends, drafting Georgia linebacker Smael Mondon Jr. in the fifth round. Mondon is the sixth Bulldog the franchise has drafted since 2022. <em>- Andrew Dixon</em></p><h3>Rams love RBs</h3><p>Sean McVay's outfit took former Auburn tailback Jarquez Hunter in Round 4, marking the eighth straight draft in which the Rams chose a running back. That's the <a href="https://x.com/sarahbarshop/status/1916176255675994160">longest</a> streak in the NFL since Washington did so from 2011-20. Cam Akers (52nd overall) was L.A.'s highest-drafted runner in that span, but Kyren Williams is the most notable one. This battle looks wide open and either rookie could legitimately win it. <em>- Caio Miari</em></p><h3>Vikings trade for a McCarthy backup</h3><p>The Vikings considered Aaron Rodgers and even a reported trade to reunite with Kirk Cousins. They could also have drafted a rookie QB. Instead, Minnesota made a deal with Seattle to acquire Sam Howell, who presumably will serve as the team's backup behind second-year passer J.J. McCarthy. Howell has 18 NFL starts under his belt, 17 of which came in 2023 in his only year as a starter in Washington. He backed up Geno Smith last year. <em>- Caio Miari</em></p><h3>A new weapon for Mahomes</h3><p>After getting Mahomes an offensive lineman in Round 1, the Chiefs went back to the well on offense in Round 4, drafting Utah State receiver Jalen Royals. There's some good value in Royals, who joins a Kansas City receiving corps that will return a healthy Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown, plus Xavier Worthy entering his second year. Royals can operate on all three levels of the field, and he gives Mahomes another pass-catcher to throw to. <em>- Daniel Valente</em></p><h3>Chubb on outside looking in with Browns</h3><p>It looks like Nick Chubb's time in Cleveland could be over. The Browns have doubled up on running backs at the draft, selecting Dylan Sampson with the 126th pick after taking Quinshon Judkins at No. 36. And the Texans' front office led by Nick Caserio has not been afraid to maneuver its way around. The Texans' trade up to No. 116 in the fourth round to get running back Woody Marks was the franchise's sixth trade of this draft, according to <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1916174223753486434">ESPN's Adam Schefter</a>. One thing has been clear: The Texans are not afraid to move around the board to get the value they want. <em>- Daniel Valente</em></p><h3>49ers keep picking defenders</h3><p>San Francisco opened the draft by selecting five consecutive defensive players, including defensive tackle CJ West out of Indiana in the fourth round.</p><p>The selections come on the heels of an offseason exodus. He has a different style than Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby, which sets him up to be a rotational back.</p><p>Skattebo, who finished fifth in Heisman voting after a standout season with the Sun Devils, is set to complement Tyrone Tracy. He's a violent runner with elite contact balance and should slot in as New York's power back right from Day 1. - <em>Andrew Dixon</em></p><h3>Why is Shedeur sliding?</h3><p>The final day of the 2025 NFL Draft is upon us, and Shedeur Sanders is still available. The Colorado signal-caller reportedly sandbagged some of his pre-draft interviews with teams that he didn't think he would be a starter for or teams that he wouldn't want to play for, according to <a href="https://x.com/NFLonCBS/status/1916101036449685568">CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones</a>.</p><p>NFL teams could also be worried about his fit as a backup quarterback. Many clubs look for No. 2 QBs who are open to supporting their starter without making waves in the locker room or the media. Sanders' persona clashing with his role could continue pushing him down boards.</p><p>Other factors, including an average pro day and the Buffaloes retiring Sanders' jersey number almost as soon as his college career ended, reportedly began to add up as negatives for teams. - <em>Andrew Dixon</em></p><h3>Who ends Shedeur's slide?</h3><p>A whopping five quarterbacks have heard their name called already. While there's no telling when this shocking slide will end, there are a few destinations that make sense for Sanders.</p><p>The Steelers have still not addressed the quarterback position and are the most obvious fit for Sanders. However, Pittsburgh isn't scheduled to come up until the 21st pick of the fourth round.</p><p>The Raiders pick sixth in the fourth round, making them the first real option to stop Sanders' slide. It would be an intriguing landing spot, as Sanders could develop behind Geno Smith.</p><p>Perhaps a surprise team will come to Sanders' rescue. The Jets pick eighth in the fourth round and could use a low-risk investment behind Justin Fields. Quinn Ewers and Kyle McCord are theScore's top-ranked passers available after Sanders. Mike Tomlin's outfit is still waiting for Aaron Rodgers to make a decision, but the team needs to add competition under center. </script></figure><p>Johnson's combine performance was a major red flag, as running a 4.51 40-yard dash at 154 pounds will disqualify him among many evaluators. The Oregon wideout declined to give it another shot at his pro day, though, suggesting his tape tells a different story about his game. He's probably right. Johnson was a difference-maker in college. His quickness and route-running skills were consistently too much for defensive backs to handle, allowing him to create easy separation. He was similarly dynamic after the catch and as a returner on special teams. Johnson continued to shine when it came time to go one-on-one with some top defensive backs at the Senior Bowl. Gambling on a player with this size will always carry some risk, and he'll need to mitigate contact against NFL defenders. But the eye test was good enough that Johnson is absolutely worth a shot.</p>

He went 21-4 over his final two years with the Longhorns. He's got the arm to make every throw on the field, a quick release, and the touch to deliver some really nice passes over an underneath defender. His off-script playmaking, demonstrated with a few highlight-reel throws this year at Michigan, provides some intriguing upside. But the accuracy comes and goes, particularly in the deeper areas. It seems like the inconsistency is a result of some sloppy footwork. His feet tend to get away from him when he's dealing with pressure in the pocket, too. Could a few years of development in the NFL give him a chance to clean up these issues and make the most of his abilities? It's probably a risk worth taking. There's potential for him to become a starter if he can find a way for the highs to become the norm.</p>

<p>The San Francisco 49ers selected Indiana quarterback Kurtis Rourke in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 227th overall.</p><p>The Canadian signal-caller joins a 49ers quarterback room headlined by <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/174189" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/174189">Brock Purdy</a> and that features <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///nfl/players/161650" href="https://thescore.com/nfl/players/161650">Mac Jones</a>.</p><p>Rourke is also expected to be selected in the 2025 CFL Draft next week. His older brother, <a data-in-app-uri="thescore:///cfl/players/204567" href="https://thescore.com/cfl/players/204567">Nathan Rourke</a>, is the starting quarterback for the BC Lions. Rourke starred at Ohio for five seasons prior to transferring to Indiana ahead of the 2024 season.</p><div class="the-score-article-ad-unit"></div><p>The Oakville, Ontario, native led the Hoosiers to a College Football Playoff berth after throwing for a career-best 3,042 yards, 29 touchdowns, and five interceptions. </script></figure><p>Rourke transferred to Indiana after five seasons at Ohio, and his play was a driving force behind the Hoosiers' run to the College Football Playoff. The Canadian signal-caller manages the pocket well, shows an ability to work through progressions, and delivers the ball with touch and accuracy. He doesn't have the strongest arm, so the upside is likely capped here. He also showed little to no mobility at Indiana, but it turns out he played the entire year on a torn ACL. It's easy to admire that kind of toughness. While Rourke will probably never be a significant threat as a runner, his movement skills returning to the level he flashed at Ohio could add an important element to his game. Either way, he's an interesting backup option who has the qualities to keep an offense on schedule in spurts.</p>
