Dustin Poirier was overcome with emotion following his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in their lightweight title bout at UFC 242 on Saturday.

Following his defeat by third-round submission, Poirier couldn't hide his disappointment both in the cage and in his post-fight news conference.

Later in the day, Poirier took to social media to share a message with his fans.

"Thank you guys for the support, it means a lot to me. If I choose to fight again, I'll be back strong. If not, I'll see what God has in store for me. Thank you," he said.

Poirier has amassed a career record of 25-6 and finally earned his shot to become the undisputed division champion. The 30-year-old will likely take some time before determining his next move after losing his interim title.
