Grizzlies set NBA record with 73-point victory over Thunder
The Memphis Grizzlies set an NBA record for largest margin of victory Thursday, trouncing the Oklahoma City Thunder 152-79.
The 73-point spread surpassed the previous record of 68 points set by the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Miami Heat in 1991. Memphis' lead reached 78 points at one point during Thursday's contest.
Nine different Grizzlies players reached double figures, with Jaren Jackson leading the way with 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting.
Memphis dominated the interior, with its 82 paint points surpassing Oklahoma City's total scoring output. It was just the fourth time that's happened in the last 25 years, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
The historic defeat comes just one year after Oklahoma City set the NBA record for worst home loss, losing to the Pacers by 57 points last May. The franchise now owns the worst home and road losses in league history, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
The Grizzlies were superior in all facets of the contest but particularly on the glass, out-rebounding the Thunder 53-26. They also dished out 41 assists to Oklahoma City's 14.
Luguentz Dort led the Thunder with 15 points as the team suffered its eighth straight loss. No Oklahoma City player shot above 50% from the field.
The Thunder have plenty of time to recover following the historic blowout; they won't take the floor again until Dec. 6 against the Detroit Pistons.
The Grizzlies are back in action Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks.
