BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Donovan Dent scored 19 points and distributed 10 assists, and LSU beat LSU New Orleans 100-57 in a season opener for both teams on Tuesday night.

In addition to turnover-free basketball from Dent, reserve Michael Ruzic scored 17 points on 8-for-11 shooting, Saliou Niang scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, while Brice Dessert netted 13 points. Reserve Abdi Bashir Jr. had 11, and Mo Dioubate tallied 10 for the Tigers.

Backup Yohandry Ortiz scored 16 points for the Privateers.

The Tigers built a 10-0 lead and never trailed. They led 53-17 at halftime and shot 51% (39 of 76) for the game.

In July, the University of New Orleans rejoined the LSU system and rebranded to “LSU New Orleans”

The transition marks a return to the LSU family for the university - a place it called home from 1958-2011. Athletic teams will remain the Privateers and continue to compete in the Southland Conference.
