South Carolina's Bentley: Clemson wasn't that much better than us

Jake Bentley thinks the score of last year's South Carolina-Clemson game is a little misleading.

Despite a 56-7 loss to the Tigers, the Gamecocks quarterback thinks his team is close to Clemson's level.

"We just didn't play well that week," Bentley told FOX Carolina. "That's our big quote going into this year. We felt we got outworked. So our big thing is never again we will be outworked. Never again will (we) be out-competed in a game like that. It all stems from that game. Because at the end of the game, everyone knew that they weren't that much better than us or better than us at all. It really just lit a fire in everybody. Since that week, everyone has worked harder and wanted it more."

A whopping 49-point loss would seem to indicate otherwise, though there may be optimism heading into this season.

The Gamecocks won four out of five before running into Clemson, and if they can hold Dabo Swinney and Co. to under 50 points in the November rematch, it would be considered an improvement.
