Ohio State to rest Stroud against Akron
Ohio State will rest quarterback C.J. Stroud against Akron and he'll only enter the game in an emergency situation, head coach Ryan Day said Thursday on his radio show, according to Austin Ward of Lettermen Row.
Freshman Kyle McCord and redshirt freshman Jack Miller are both expected to see snaps in Stroud's absence. As for five-star commit Quinn Ewers, who enrolled at Ohio State early, Day said it was "really impossible" to get him ready to play for the matchup.
Stroud has been playing through a shoulder injury all season but managed to throw for 963 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions in his first three games as a starter.
"When C.J. Stroud gets in there, we also want him to find a rhythm as well and get that execution of the offense. That's the No. 1 goal, to make sure that we're executing at a high level and finding that rhythm. I don't think we've found that quite yet," Day said earlier in the week.
