Report: USC's Dart sidelined after meniscus surgery

USC quarterback Jaxson Dart faces an extended absence after undergoing surgery to repair his meniscus, reports The Athletic's Antonio Morales.

The freshman was set to enter a competition with Kedon Slovis for the starting job after throwing four touchdowns in his NCAA debut Saturday against Washington State. Dart relieved an injured Slovis in that game, which the Trojans won 45-14.

Dart reportedly sustained the meniscus injury in the second quarter versus Washington State, but he managed to finish the contest. USC interim head coach Donte Williams declared the quarterback job open following Dart's eye-opening performance.

Slovis is expected to return and start against Oregon State. He suffered a neck injury his last time out, but is practicing as USC prepares for its fourth game of the year.

Miller Moss, a top-100 recruit in the 2021 class, is expected to back up Slovis while Dart is sidelined.

The Trojans are 2-1 on the young season with wins over San Jose State and Washington State.
