Oklahoma State stuns Oregon to snap 21-game FBS losing skid

Oklahoma State shocked the college football world on Saturday, ending a 21-game FBS losing streak to take down 24.5-point favorite Oregon 39-31.

Oklahoma State entered the contest following a stunning Week 1 loss to Tulsa, spoiling new coach Eric Morris' debut with the program. The challenge to right the ship was immense, with the No. 6 Ducks coming to Stillwater a year after thumping the Cowboys 69-3.

However, Drew Mestemaker lived up to his preseason hype after last week's poor showing, throwing for 317 yards and rushing for over 100 more on Saturday. His incredible touchdown run in the fourth quarter - complete with a leap to the end zone - will likely go down in Oklahoma State lore.

The Cowboys' last FBS win came on Sept. 14, 2024, against Tulsa. They're now the first team since 1978 to snap a 20-plus-game losing streak against FBS opponents by beating a ranked team.

Saturday also marked the Ducks' second straight poor performance after they barely got past Boise State at home last week, putting doubt in Dan Lanning's program after it was tabbed as a betting favorite to win the national title.

Many NFL scouts were in Stillwater to watch Dante Moore, but they're probably leaving thinking Mestemaker is the next star in the pros. Moore finished 14-of-29 for 191 yards in the loss, while Oregon's offense outgained its opponent by a massive 554-281 yard margin and held the ball for almost 37 minutes.

Lanning has lost games with Oregon before, but this one was unprecedented. The Ducks' last five losses came against teams that went on to play in the national championship that year. The outcome also ended several streaks the coach and program had built over the last few years.

While Oregon can certainly still make a run to the playoff, the Ducks' title odds plummeted from +650 to +1800 with the loss.
