San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan believes quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be able to start Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts on Oct. 24 after the team returns from its bye.

"That's the plan," Shanahan said on "KNBR's Murph and Mac" show, according to David Bonilla of 49ersWebZone. "I know he's doing a lot better now than he was last week."

The 29-year-old Garoppolo missed last Sunday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals with a calf injury.

Garoppolo sustained the ailment in Week 4 versus the Seattle Seahawks. Trey Lance replaced Garoppolo and made his first career start against Arizona. However, the rookie picked up a knee strain that could sideline him for one-to-two weeks.

"I know there was an outside chance that (Garoppolo) was going to be able to play (against the Cardinals), which makes me feel pretty good going forward about Indy," Shanahan said. "But I'm never going to set it in stone because calves are a little bit weird. ... So, I think it will be better, but let's hope for the best."

The 49ers have lost three straight and, at 2-3, currently occupy last place in the NFC West standings.
