San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw tore his Achilles while running back onto the field during the second quarter of Super Bowl LVIII against the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters.
Greenlaw was second on the 49ers in tackles with 120 during the regular season. He also racked up four pass defenses and 1.5 sacks.
Oren Burks and Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles filled Greenlaw's snaps next to All-Pro Fred Warner for the rest of the game.
San Francisco fell 25-22 in overtime, marking the second time in five years the 49ers lost to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
