Scottie Scheffler looked anything but the World No. 1 on Thursday at the WM Phoenix Open, posting a shocking 2-over 73 for his worst round on the PGA TOUR since June.
The opening-round performance ended Scheffler's streak of 33 straight under-par rounds. He posted five bogeys and a double-bogey around TPC Scottsdale and currently sits 10 strokes off the lead.
The result is particularly surprising given that Scheffler won The American Express in late January, not to mention he has starred in Phoenix over the past five seasons.

That's 23 shots better than anyone else in that span (Justin Thomas, -32).
Scheffler was visibly frustrated throughout the day. He finished his round sitting 72nd in the field in strokes gained: approach - a baffling number, considering he led the TOUR in that category each of the last three seasons.
The 29-year-old currently holds the longest cuts-made streak on TOUR at 65 after Xander Schauffele's run of 72 straight ended last week in San Diego. Scheffler will need a low round Friday to ensure he plays the weekend and extends his streak.
