Wimbledon betting: Can Shelton, Fritz end 22-year Grand Slam drought?
Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz advanced to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, increasing the chances for an American man to win a Grand Slam title for the first time since Andy Roddick in 2003.
Shelton defeated Lorenzo Sonego in four sets Monday to punch his ticket to the quarters, and Fritz advanced Sunday after Jordan Thompson retired.
Before the tournament started, Fritz was +3300 to win and Shelton was +5000 on ESPN BET and theScore Bet. Those odds have shortened to +1600 (5.9% implied probability) and +2200 (4.3% implied probability), respectively.
The 22-year-old Shelton, who became the youngest American to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon since Roddick in 2004, will face Jannik Sinner, where he's a +390 underdog. Meanwhile, Fritz is a -340 favorite over Russian Karan Khachanov.
Men's odds
Player | Odds |
---|---|
Carlos Alcaraz | +105 |
Jannik Sinner | +180 |
Novak Djokovic | +380 |
Taylor Fritz | +1600 |
Ben Shelton | +2200 |
Karen Khachanov | +5000 |
Flavio Cobolli | +6600 |
Cameron Norrie | +6600 |
This isn't uncharted territory for either American in a Grand Slam. Fritz has played in two Wimbledon quarterfinals and reached the final at last year's U.S. Open. Shelton made it to the semifinals at the 2025 Australian Open and 2023 U.S. Open.
It will still be an uphill battle for both Americans with pre-tournament favorites Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner, and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic remaining in the draw.
Alcaraz has looked unstoppable, and Fritz will likely have to take out the defending champion if he gets past Khachanov. However, Sinner looked beatable in his fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov, which bodes well for Shelton. Sinner looked to be battling an ailment of his own and trailed two sets to love when Dimitrov was forced to retire. With that said, if Shelton can knock off the World No. 1, chances are he will have seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic waiting for him in the semis.
Fritz's match gets underway at 8 a.m. ET on Tuesday, and Shelton will take on Sinner on Wednesday.
