Man Utd flop Antony joins Real Betis on loan until end of season
Manchester United winger Antony completed his loan move to Real Betis on Saturday.
Antony - the second-most expensive signing in United's history - joined Betis until the end of the season. The agreement doesn't include an option for the Spanish side to make the move permanent when the deal expires in June.
Real Betis will pay 84% of the Brazilian's wages, plus potential bonuses depending on performances, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
Offloading Antony clears an estimated £1.5 million from Manchester United's wage bill for the remainder of the campaign, reports The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell. Antony currently earns £105,000 per week on a contract that lasts until 2027.
After weeks of speculation, the Red Devils permitted him to go to Spain to undergo a medical at Real Betis before officially joining the team coached by former Manchester City coach Manuel Pellegrini.
Antony's appearance in last weekend's defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion could end up being his last for United, potentially bringing an end to his difficult spell at the club after joining from Ajax for €100 million in 2022.
The 24-year-old went from 23 Premier League starts in his first campaign to 15 last season.
Antony hasn't started a league match this term. His three starts this season were in League Cup and Europa League matches.
He has 12 goals in 96 games in all competitions.
