Barcelona completed the signing of Anthony Gordon on Friday following swift negotiations with Newcastle United and the English attacker.
Barca acquired Gordon for an overall package that could exceed €80 million, reports transfer insider Fabrizio Romano. Newcastle will reportedly receive an initial €70 million before add-ons, Romano adds.
Gordon signed a contract through 2031.
Bayern Munich also submitted a bid for Gordon on Wednesday but backed away from the deal after failing to match the offer from Catalonia, according to Lee Ryder of Newcastle-based publication The Chronicle.
The transfer then progressed quickly. Gordon had medical tests in Barcelona on Thursday, and all of the paperwork was signed by Friday morning, according to Romano.
Gordon scored 24 goals and provided 17 assists over 111 Premier League appearances for Newcastle. He notably scored 10 times in the current Champions League campaign, although four of those goals came in a lopsided win over Azerbaijan's Qarabag.
The 25-year-old's arrival could mark the start of an aggressive summer recruitment drive by Barcelona. The club is preparing an offer worth around €100 million for Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez as it seeks a replacement for outgoing striker Robert Lewandowski, according to The Athletic's Pol Ballus, Mario Cortegana, and Guillermo Rai. Barcelona are also competing with Atletico Madrid for Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva, Romano reports.
Gordon will represent England at this summer's World Cup. He joins a squad that includes Marcus Rashford, the Manchester United attacker who spent the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Barcelona. The Spanish giants have until June 15 to trigger their €30-million option to buy Rashford, and it now seems unlikely that they will do so after signing Gordon, according to The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell.
