Yamal, 16, becomes youngest scorer at European Championship

Lamine Yamal, 16, made history in Tuesday's Euro 2024 semifinal by becoming the youngest-ever goalscorer in the competition's history.

The Barcelona winger unleashed a curling shot from outside France's box in the 21st minute to bring Spain level, etching his name in history as the first 16-year-old to score at the Euros.

He's also now the youngest the player to score at a major tournament. The record was initially held by Brazil great Pele, who set the mark at the 1958 World Cup.

The European Championship record stood for 20 years before Yamal's strike past a diving Mike Maignan from 25 yards out at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Yamal also made history just by playing in Tuesday's match, breaking Pele's 66-year-old record as the youngest player to appear in a semifinal at the Euros or World Cup.

The teenage sensation has three assists for Spain at Euro 2024.

Spain went ahead four minutes later courtesy of Dani Olmo's goal to take a 2-1 lead, and held on to that lead until the final whistle to reach the final.

Yamal will celebrate his 17th birthday on Saturday, one day before the final.
