The Tampa Bay Rays have traded right-handed reliever Ryne Stanek and outfield prospect Jesus Sanchez to the Miami Marlins for pitchers Trevor Richards and Nick Anderson, reports Jeff Passan of ESPN.
The Rays added rotation depth in Richards, who has been occasionally effective for the Marlins with a 4.50 ERA in 112 innings this season, though he owns a 3-12 record. Anderson, meanwhile, has been one of the NL's top strikeout artists with a 14.22 K/9 in 43 2/3 innings during his rookie campaign.
Stanek was one of the Rays' primary openers in addition to being a key bullpen arm. He's posted a 3.40 ERA with a 9.86 K/9 across 55 2/3 innings this season.
However, the big prize for the Marlins could prove to be Sanchez. MLB Pipeline lists the 21-year-old as the Rays' fourth-ranked prospect and 42nd overall. He was batting only .208 over his first 18 games at Triple-A, but Sanchez posted a .275/.332/.404 slash line with eight homers in 78 games at Double-A.
