The Boston Red Sox have brought outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. back in a trade that sends outfielder Hunter Renfroe to the Milwaukee Brewers, the teams announced Wednesday.

In addition, the Red Sox will receive infield prospects David Hamilton and Alex Binelas.

Bradley, 31, spent the first eight years of his career with the Red Sox after they drafted him 40th overall in 2011. Last winter, the former All-Star and Gold Glove winner signed a two-year, $24-million contract to join the Brewers.

However, in his first season with Milwaukee, Bradley struggled to a .163/.236/.261 slash line while also recording six homers and seven steals over 134 games. He's owed $9.5 million in 2022 after he exercised his player option. Bradley's contract also includes a $12-million mutual option for 2023 with an $8-million buyout.

Renfroe, meanwhile, is coming off a strong season in his first year in Boston. The 29-year-old hit .259/.315/.501 with 31 homers and one steal over 144 contests.

Renfroe is projected to earn $7.6 million as he heads into his second year of arbitration eligibility. However, the current collective bargaining agreement is set to expire at 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, and the new rules could impact the structure of arb salaries. The owners have already reportedly voted unanimously in favor of a lockout, which will begin Thursday.

Hamilton ranked No. 16 in the Brewers' system, according to MLB Pipeline. The 24-year-old middle infielder posted a .761 OPS with eight homers and 52 stolen bases across two minor-league levels last year and showed some improvement at the plate during the Arizona Fall League.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old Binelas sat No. 17 in Milwaukee's system. The corner infielder had a .973 OPS with nine homers and one steal over 36 games between Rookie and Low-A last year.
