The New York Yankees placed Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the injured list with an elbow sprain, the club announced Wednesday.

Chisholm sustained a left UCL injury on a slide at home plate in Monday's loss to the Chicago White Sox.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that the Yankees are still determining the severity of the injury and if surgery will be necessary, per MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

"He's bummed out because he wanted to be in the lineup today," Boone said, according to Hoch. "He woke up today feeling like, 'I'm playing today.' Let's see what we have, and hopefully it's not something that's too long."

The Yankees recalled infielder Oswald Peraza to take Chisholm's spot on the roster.

Following Monday's game, Chisholm said he "wasn't super concerned" about the injury.

The Yankees acquired Chisholm from the Miami Marlins on July 27. The 26-year-old has been excellent since the trade, slashing .316/.361/.702 with seven home runs, 13 runs scored, 11 RBIs, and five stolen bases in 14 games.
