Report: Guardians re-sign Bieber to 1-year deal
The Cleveland Guardians agreed to a new contract with pitcher Shane Bieber, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.
Bieber, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery, gets a $10-million base salary in 2025 as part of his new deal plus a $16-million player option for 2026 with a $4-million buyout, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.
The righty made two starts in 2024 before going under the knife, striking out 20 batters in 12 innings while allowing no earned runs.
Bieber had bigger offers from other clubs but turned them down to stay in Cleveland, sources told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.
One of those lucrative offers likely came from the Boston Red Sox, as they reportedly made a "serious push" to acquire Bieber before he re-upped with the Guardians, sources told FanSided's Robert Murray.
The 29-year-old has spent the entirety of his seven-year career with the Guardians, pitching to a 3.22 ERA (133 ERA+) and 1.12 WHIP with 958 strikeouts over 843 innings pitched.
Bieber is a two-time All Star and won the 2020 AL Cy Young Award.
