Rays acquire Englert from Tigers for minor-league pitcher

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired reliever Mason Englert from the Detroit Tigers for pitching prospect Drew Sommers, the club announced Wednesday.
Detroit designated Englert for assignment last week.
The 25-year-old right-hander made 12 appearances for the Tigers in 2024, pitching to a 5.40 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 21 2/3 innings. He gave up four home runs and struck out 16 batters.
Sommers, 24, put up a 4.00 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 54 innings for the Rays' High-A affiliate team, the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
Tampa Bay drafted the lefty in the 11th round of the 2022 MLB draft.
