Hyde frustrated after Orioles allow 24 runs to Reds: 'Embarrassing'

Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde was none too pleased after his club suffered a humiliating 24-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Easter Sunday.

"Unfortunately, it’s embarrassing," Hyde said postgame, according to MASN's Roch Kubatko. "It’s not what you want to do on Easter Sunday in front of your home crowd. You want to compete."

The Reds pounded Orioles pitching for 25 hits and tagged veteran right-hander Charlie Morton for seven runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings. Morton fell to 0-5 in his first five starts with the Orioles after signing a one-year contract in the offseason.

"I think it's more letting the team down," Morton said. "I've gone through enough failure. I've gone through enough searching, wondering about it, but it's letting your teammates down. It's letting your coaches down and the fans down. That's something that you really never get over."

The loss dropped the Orioles to 9-12 on the season. They got off to a much better start in 2024, posting a 14-7 record through the same amount of games.
