Giles faints backstage, fight vs. Holland canceled
Kevin Holland and Trevin Giles' middleweight fight has been canceled after the latter fainted while getting ready to walk out at UFC Fight Night on Saturday, according to the broadcast.
Giles was later shown on the broadcast awake and sitting on a stool backstage.
UFC reporter Heidi Androl said the promotion believes "it was just nerves" that led to the incident. In a subsequent update, play-by-play commentator Brendan Fitzgerald said Giles appeared to be "fine" and wanted to fight but is being transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons.
Holland-Giles was the opener for the five-bout main card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
The event will proceed with eight fights. Derek Brunson will meet Edmen Shahbazyan in the middleweight main event.
