Where does McGregor's disastrous 1st pitch rank among all-time worst?
UFC star Conor McGregor shouldn't pursue a baseball career anytime soon after butchering the ceremonial first pitch at Wrigley Field prior to a Chicago Cubs game Tuesday.
Fortunately for McGregor, there have been first pitches more disastrous than his effort. Here are some of the all-time worst.
10. Michael Jordan, 1998
The NBA legend sailed the throw despite playing professional baseball a few years earlier. Sticking to basketball was a good idea in hindsight.
9. Carl Lewis, 2003
The celebrated Olympian at least managed to get the ball to the catcher, even though the throw was weak.
8. Mariah Carey, 2011
The pop star's throw was similar to Lewis' attempt, except it happened in heels and in Japan. For those reasons, Carey gets the edge.
7. Mark Mallory, 2007
The former mayor of Cincinnati pulled his throw way left and then was promptly ejected for the abysmal effort.
6. 50 Cent, 2014
The Grammy Award-winning rapper looked good during the windup, but everything went wrong after the ball left his hand. He gets the nod over Mallory because 50 Cent is more famous and people won't forget.
5. Conor McGregor, 2021
Back to McGregor here. This pitch is more outlandish than his trash-talking. It will be remembered for a long time because the wayward heave is so fresh, and the Irishman maintains an extremely public profile.
4. Carly Rae Jepsen, 2012
Call you never? Jepsen beats out 50 Cent and McGregor because her throw is insanely off with no mustard on it.
3. Monique Evans, 2014
Miss Texas looks like she's bowling. This pitch should probably go in its own category. However, she doesn't hit anybody, unlike the next two individuals.
2. Mary Ruich, 2019
Winning employee of the month led to internet infamy for Ruich. She nailed the cameraman, but everybody walked away laughing. Can't say the same for the No. 1 worst first pitch of all time.
1. Jordan Leandre, 2017
Leandre, who survived pediatric cancer and appeared in the movie "Fever Pitch," offers a great feel-good story. However, when somebody takes a baseball to the groin, that's automatically the top moment.
