Conor McGregor shut down speculation that he had a pre-existing injury going into his UFC 329 loss to Max Holloway.

The former two-division champion injured his right knee in his long-awaited comeback bout Saturday night in Las Vegas, leading to a 69-second TKO defeat. In his first public comments since the fight, McGregor wrote on X that the injury caught him off guard and that he is extremely disappointed.

"My head gasket is gone. Destroyed," McGregor wrote. "I had no injury/injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell."

The extent of McGregor's knee injury hasn't been confirmed, though UFC CEO Dana White said at the postfight press conference that doctors believe the Irishman tore his ACL.

McGregor returned to the Octagon for the first time since he broke his left leg against Dustin Poirier in July 2021. The 37-year-old is riding a three-fight skid.
