Jazz's Mitchell refuses to sit after injuring foot in playoff debut

A sore foot wasn't going to bounce Utah Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell from his first career postseason game on Sunday.

Mitchell injured his left foot when Oklahoma City Thunder forward Corey Brewer stepped on it during the first half. This forced the 21-year-old guard to the locker room where he underwent X-rays that later came back negative.

He ultimately re-entered the fray, but was noticeably limping throughout. Midway through the fourth quarter, the Jazz's training staff appeared ready to remove him from the game entirely, but Mitchell was having none of it.

After being pulled at the 6:47 mark, Mitchell would be on the bench for a matter of seconds before going back in. He lasted another three minutes until being subbed out for Dante Exum with 3:19 remaining and the Jazz trailing 109-91 on the scoreboard.

Mitchell finished his playoff debut with a team-high 27 points on 11-of-22 shooting from the field and 3-of-7 from deep in 35 minutes. He also added 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a rejection as Utah fell 116-108 at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

Mitchell becomes the first player since LeBron James in 2006 to finish his career playoff debut with at least 25 points and 10 rebounds. James notched 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists for the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Washington Wizards on April 22, 2006.

While his X-ray was negative, the Jazz announced afterward that Mitchell will undergo an MRI at some point.

Game 2 of the best-of-seven series goes down on Wednesday night.
