Report: 76ers to hire Jameer Nelson as scout, assistant GM for G League team
The Philadelphia 76ers are hiring former All-Star point guard Jameer Nelson as a scout and assistant general manager for the Delaware Blue Coats, their G League affiliate, sources told John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
Nelson played for six different organizations across 14 seasons in the NBA. He spent the first decade of his career with the Orlando Magic and was part of the team that made a run to the NBA Finals in 2008-09. The 38-year-old remains the franchise's all-time assists leader and ranks fifth in scoring.
The move is a homecoming for Nelson, who was born and raised in nearby Chester, Pennsylvania. He also starred locally for Saint Joseph's from 2000-04.
Nelson was a three-time All-Atlantic 10 first-team selection and won the Wooden Award as the nation's top collegiate male player after leading the Hawks to a 27-0 regular-season mark and an Elite Eight appearance during the 2003-04 campaign.
