Report: Mavs bring back vet Markieff Morris
The Dallas Mavericks and forward Markieff Morris reached an agreement to return the veteran free agent to Dallas, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Morris made just 26 appearances, including one start, for the Mavericks last season, in which he averaged just 8.3 minutes. However, the team was reportedly interested in reuniting with the 6-foot-9 journeyman because of his leadership role in the team's locker room during its run to the Finals. With a crowded frontcourt in Dallas, he'll likely take up a similar role in 2024-25.
The 34-year-old became an NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020 and then had short stints with the Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets before landing on the Mavericks midway through the 2022-23 campaign. He was a part of the same swap that sent Kyrie Irving to Dallas.
In a combined 34 contests over one-and-a-half seasons with the Mavs, Morris is averaging three points and 1.5 rebounds. He's represented eight teams across 13 seasons since being taken 13th overall by the Phoenix Suns in 2011, putting up career averages of 10.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
