Embiid out Sunday vs. Clippers to manage knee swelling
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid will miss Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers to manage knee swelling, the team announced Friday.
The Sixers had made Embiid a late scratch ahead of Friday's NBA Cup win against the Brooklyn Nets.
Embiid missed the team's first nine games of the campaign as he rehabilitated a knee injury and served a suspension for pushing a media member. The 30-year-old is averaging 19.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and a block in four contests while shooting a career-worst 37.9% from the field.
Paul George will also be sidelined for Philly's next two games after he hyperextended his left knee, the same injury that forced him to miss the season's first five contests.
The Sixers sit second from bottom in the Eastern Conference with a 3-12 record following Friday's 113-98 victory. The shorthanded Sixers were led by rookie Jared McCain, who posted a team-high 30 points on 11-of-20 shooting. Tyrese Maxey chipped in with 26 points in just 27 minutes of play.
