The Orlando Magic fired head coach Jamahl Mosley after five seasons, the team announced Monday.
Mosley's dismissal comes one day after Orlando was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, having blown a 3-1 series lead against the top-seeded Detroit Pistons.
"We appreciate his leadership and the positive contributions he made as head coach," president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said in a statement. "While this was a difficult decision, we feel it's time for a new voice and fresh perspective."
The Magic hired Mosley in July 2021 to replace Steve Clifford. The 47-year-old guided the franchise to a 189-221 mark, including three straight playoff appearances. He ranks third on the team's all-time wins list behind Brian Hill and Stan Van Gundy.
However, Orlando never advanced past the opening round and ranked no higher than 18th in offensive efficiency during his tenure. Magic star Paolo Banchero also questioned the team's ceiling following Sunday's season-ending defeat.
Mosley finished second to Mark Daigneault in Coach of the Year voting in 2023-24.
