The Philadelphia 76ers will not retain Elton Brand as their general manager under new president Mike Gansey, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.
Brand, however, will reportedly remain with the franchise in a new role.
Philadelphia is also promoting assistant general manager Jameer Nelson to executive vice president of basketball operations, reports Charania. Nelson will assume Brand's former role as the franchise's second-leading basketball executive.
Brand reportedly didn't apply for the role of president made vacant by the dismissal of Daryl Morey in May. However, the 47-year-old remains well-respected within the organization and continues to assist with draft preparation, according to Charania.
After playing his final season with the 76ers in 2015-16, Brand joined the team's staff as a player development consultant. The two-time All-Star and 2000 co-Rookie of the Year became Philadelphia's GM ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.
Brand orchestrated multiple significant trades within his first year, including the additions of Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris. He also dealt former first overall pick Markelle Fultz to the Orlando Magic for a package that included a 2020 first-round pick, which Philadelphia used to select Tyrese Maxey.
Nelson played for six teams across a 14-year career, but he's best known for his decade-long run with the Magic. The 76ers promoted him to assistant GM in May 2025.
