Washington Wizards guard Trae Young intends to sign a new four-year, $212-million deal with the team, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

The fourth year reportedly contains a player option.

Young's new deal falls just short of the $229-million max contract he was eligible to receive from Washington but matches what he could have received from any other team.

Young previously declined his $49-million player option for the 2026-27 campaign, allowing him to test free agency. However, he'll instead return to Washington after playing sparingly for the franchise in the second half of last season.

The 27-year-old joined the Wizards in January as part of a blockbuster trade that sent CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange.

Young appeared in just five games for Washington due to back and quad injuries, averaging 15.2 points, three rebounds, and 6.2 assists on 59.5% shooting.

He spent the better part of eight seasons with the Hawks, earning four All-Star selections and an All-NBA third-team nod. The Dallas Mavericks chose Young with the fifth pick in the 2018 draft and subsequently traded him to Atlanta for third overall pick Luka Doncic.
