LOS ANGELES, CA - APRIL 30: Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (23) looks to get past Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards (5) during game 5 of the first round of the NBA Western Conference Playoffs between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers on April 30, 2025, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, CA.

The Minnesota Timberwolves strongly believe they're in the mix to sign LeBron James with a pitch centered around competing for a championship alongside their core of Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels, and Rudy Gobert, sources told Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

The Timberwolves are also reportedly attempting to sell James on potentially leading the franchise to its first NBA championship after 37 seasons of existence. They're one of five NBA teams to never reach the Finals, and the Timberwolves have made the conference finals on just three occasions - two of which were in the last three seasons.

James, 41, is expected to take his time choosing from a long list of interested franchises. His agent Rich Paul revealed on his podcast Friday that the Timberwolves are one of several teams linked to his client, who confirmed he would leave the Los Angeles Lakers this summer and continue his career elsewhere for a record 24th year.

James would fill a void in a thin frontcourt for the Timberwolves. Julius Randle, last year's starter alongside center Gobert, was shipped to the Brooklyn Nets. Days later, Minnesota traded big man Naz Reid to the Charlotte Hornets for Ball.
