NBA veteran Taj Gibson announced his retirement Monday after 17 seasons.
"I can honestly say I gave this game everything I had," Gibson said in a statement.
The 41-year-old was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans on Sept. 8 but subsequently waived.
While Gibson is ending his playing career, he doesn't plan to stay too far away from the hardwood. The USC product will join the Chicago Bulls as an assistant coach on Tiago Splitter's staff, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
"This isn't goodbye to basketball. It's the beginning of a new chapter," Gibson added.
Gibson averaged 8.3 points and 5.7 rebounds across 1,012 regular-season games, most notably playing eight seasons for the Bulls.
He also had stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, Washington Wizards, Detroit Pistons, and Charlotte Hornets.
