Gonzaga commit Chet Holmgren is the 2020-21 Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year, the sports drink company announced Wednesday.

The No. 1 recruit in this year's class averaged 20.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, 4.7 blocks, and 4.4 assists last season for Minnehaha Academy.

The annual award recognizes elite high school students for their athletic excellence, academic achievement, and character on and off the field of play.

Holmgren is the second straight Minnehaha Academy player to receive the honor. Former Bulldogs star and 2019-20 award winner Jalen Suggs broke the news to his former high school teammate virtually.

Past winners include LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Jayson Tatum, and Karl-Anthony Towns.
